Heads up "Detectorists" fans

Posted by: Kevin-W on 17 October 2015

Just been going through my emails and there was one from the BBC Press office.

Series 2 of "Detectorists" starts on BBC4 on 29th October. It's again set in Essex, and is written and directed by Mr Crook. He stars, along with Toby Jones, Rachael Stirling, etc. No changes to the formula (that's a relief) although Lance's flaky New Age ex-wife Maggie and her sponging Pizza Hut employee boyfriend have gone.

Good news, however, is that all the Danebury Metal Detecting Club regulars will be back, Diana Rigg (appropriately enough playing Becky's mum) will be guesting in two episodes and "Simon and Garfunkel" will be making a return!

There's also an hour-long Xmas special on Boxing Day.

Let joy be unconfined!

Nice analogy Quad. RT TV I could handle that.

I do hope there is another series. Perhaps from a mash up of budgets with The Last Kingdom, given Lance's find? Spare a bit of cash Guvnor...Alfred Ordered Me Made and all that.

Season 1 just showed up in the US on Netflix. Binged through 4 of the 6 episodes last night and loved it. The hospital bedside scene with the George Washington resignation speech was brilliant!

Count Arthur Strong series 1 and 2.

That's very true. A wonderful radio series that they masterfully transferred to the screen by making it simultaneously: the same, and yet completely different. Real pathos in its truest sense.

Bit disconcerting to see Lance and Becky as a couple - called Roger and Arabella - in another BBC programme (Capital).

Filmed in my manor Rod. I thought Rachael Stirling was great as the dreadful yuppie wife.

Christmas special coming at 10pm on the 23rd  (a Wednesday) on BBC4

This series (1) just popped up on Netflix over here in Canadia Land so as I saw a few people on the forum had commented on it we watched the whole series. Absolutely loved it! Looking forward to the next series.

Reminder -it's on at 10pm tonight - shame it's only half an hour, I was hoping for a longer Xmas special.

I thought Andy and Becky had departed for Botswana? Maybe it was Botswana-on-Thames and not 'Africa Botswana' after all...

Great news, thanks for the heads up.

Ditto!

After seeing this thread I watched both series over a weekend partly as a distraction from football.

I thoroughly enjoyed them and I actually thought the second series was a gentle progression from the first and probably benefitted from being seen immediately in sequence - without any build up or overexpectation.

Support Chelski, Manure or Wolves do you?

That was nice, most of the story given over to Lance this time. And they covered the Botswana thing too...

Hmm - a lovely episode and a nice plot line..... but.... not really a "special". I was hoping for more than half an hour and there were too many main characters missing (Becky, Sophie, "Simon & Garfunkel" among others).  An extended episode, possibly with major issues with the Mud Sharks would have been more special.

Still probably the best thing on this week though.

"After seeing this thread I watched both series over a weekend partly as a distraction from football."

Where did you get the first series of the Detectorist from - I could not find it via the Sky catch up feature.?
