Naim XS2 + ND5XS, or NDX

Posted by: dlfq on 17 October 2015

hi, am looking to upgrade my Hifi Equipment. I currently run a Naim XS integrated off my Sonos. I want to upgrade the source component. I've home auditioned the NDX+XS, ND5XS+XS and he Supertuniti.

The NDX + XS tops my list but with the XS amp in the mix its a really close call. Wondering if anyone out there is running the NDX+XS and if they sense is that the NDX is a bit of an overkill. i could alternatively use that money to upgrade my B&W CM1's.

thanks

Purchased a NDX to go with my olive system this to replace a fairly expensive streamer from another manufacturer the NDX blows it out of the water in all respects the sound quality is sublime the only problem is the dust gathering on my CDI silver disc spinner!!

The Naim app is a joy to use particularly when searching stored music on a NAS drive.

Hope you enjoy it and have as much pleasure that I'm experiencing.

What did the NDX replace?

Hi , the NDX replaced a Cambridge Audio Streamagic 6 which was a highly
rated piece of kit,the NDX has a much more natural sound, more body and
depth to the music. The Internet radio is absolutely stunning all in all a
fantastic piece of kit from Naim.

Probably explains why my Olive set up has stayed with me for over twenty
years as they say you only get what you pay for !!!

NDX is up and running. Enjoying the detail it picks up in the music and its very sure handling of sounds. its a little hard to describe but something has definitely changed in the production of music in the living room. Any thoughts on if its ok to stack the XS on the NDX directly?

This question raises another - what does "stacking" do ???

I know all the theories,  magnetic fields, signal path pollution etc., but has anyone tried it & what were the audible affects - & I am not thinking about the PSU's,  just regular amps, network streamers & CDP's.

Naim cases are substantial, the classic series such as dlfq's NDX especially so, they are a one piece extruded aluminium rectangular box sleeve around 4mm thick,  the case is connected to mains power earth (ground) & all up that must be an effective screen of some sort.

What is the minimum gap (thinking Isoblue & similar rack spacing)  has this even been advised by Naim & if so where ?
