NAP to partner DAC-V1
Posted by: spacehopper on 18 October 2015
Currently on home demo I have the DAC-V1 and NAP 100 as well as the Nait 5si. Speakers are Eclipse TD508MKIII and I'm using NAC A5.
For my tastes, I prefer the presentation of the Nait 5si over the NAP 100, as I find it to have more drive and rhythm. The Nait has less bass as well, which is something the speakers don't seem to handle too well.
Having 2 volume controls and 2 headphone outputs is a little bit of a shame, and in an ideal world I would choose a NAP that has the qualities (or better) than that of the Nait 5si.
Has anyone any experience or suggestions here please? I would happily look at an Olive era NAP or otherwise.
A NAP with a fast but leaner presentation would be perfect ![]()
Hi Spacehopper
Naim recommend a NAP200 with the DAC-V1, a combination that I imagine would be excellent.
A NAP250 would probably be overkill.
I use my old but serviced NAP140 with the DAC-V1 and the combination is sweet, taut, rhythmic and lovely. Music just sounds right, a feat which is remarkably hard to achieve.
Hope this helps, FT
A 200 would be my choice.
I ran mine with a NAP 200 for some time before moving to an NDX .. it wasn't too shabby at all.
V1 and 200 is an amazing combo.
However, really depends on your speakers and future intentions. The V1 is very versatile and capable, there are folks on here that use it with a 250.2, 300, or an active 100 based systems. DAC only mode us good too as it can be used with Pres, too.

I'd go for a 250.
You have the potential for ultimate PRaT, with this growing system.
NAP 250, will see you through quite a few upgrades, including larger Eclipse.
I very nearly got got Eclipsed when looking for something to upgrade to, from Linn Kabers
And, while I've got a drink at my side for Dutch courage. A little advice, don't ditch you Naim V1 for a Hugo, or any of that stuff.
You need courage to disrespect Hugo on this forum, the way things are going here @ mo. Let's see what Naim have in the bag for us, soon.

Specially annoying..... Avatars should be still and tasteful, just like your fine duck. It's not swimming around, is it?

My advice, try Hugo and decide, its not for everyone...

Why, is it using too much bandwidth?
Perhaps I should replace it? Maybe, you should have to eat fish fingers.
Actually, my fave fish is Halibut, and I always read your very insightful posts. It was Richard D, wot dunit, he removed my previous Linn Klyde avatar (no hard feelings, Richard).
Not that I'm telling tales, mind.
Now, let's get on with helping spacehopper, with his query.

Thanks Bert. Please keep posting. You are an amazing source of musical references, I try to follow them up, whenever I can.
You've given us all loads of leads, many of which, now reside on my hard drive, not to mention Tidal.
P.S We love your red pussy cats. We have 4 cats indoors, and 3 strays/ferral outside.
Are you into fractal geometry too?
Klyde, I have a policy of removing animated avatars. Mainly because they can cause distress to some members (possibly somewhat akin to strobing effects). By all means choose your avatar as you wish, within limits of decency, but please ensure it doesn't move about.
p.s. I have nothing against the Linn Klyde btw. I even have one on one my LP12s.
Thanks for the advice folks. I plan to try the NAP 200 DR some time in the next few weeks, and shall post back on my findings with the Eclipse. The 250 is sadly way out of budget for what is a desktop system.
Hi Klyde, I agree that there is a torrent of Hugo supporters on here, and as it goes, I have had the 2Qute on home demo as well as the V1. My thinking being that I always loved the Nait 5i-2, so would probably like the 5si, in which case why use a V1...may as well get a dedicated DAC without the headphone output or pre.
Without derailing this thread and keeping it on topic, the 2Qute is immediately impressive out of the box. Wonderful texture and detail. However its the V1 which carries the tune better, at least for my taste in music. The percussion and rhythm that I love most about my favourite artists is clearly laid out by the V1 and is a joy. There is less bass via the 2Qute I feel, which is a plus within this setup.
Can't wait to try the V1 NAP 200 ![]()
I have very recently just purchased a DAC-V1 NAP 200 and I am absolutely delighted with the sound. The natural partner for the DAC-V1, is of course the NAP 100. However as my listening room is quite large along with a bit more room in my budget, I opted for the NAP 200.
Musically the system is wonderfully balanced, highly detailed with bags of clarity punch. Even on high volumes there is great grip and control with no fatigue whatsoever.
If you do decide to go for the NAP 200, I am sure you will be delighted. Please do let us know on the outcome?
Ian.
+1 re: Ancient Mariner's comments.
Just bear in mind there may be very little, or no difference, in SQ when using the DAC-V1 with the NAP200DR compared to a NAP200, i.e. a money saving opportunity.
