On Demand

Hi

 Uniti 2

Having enjoyed R3 on demand for weeks now (after my firmware update) all the programmes have gone. When I click on eg Composer of the Week I get 'no shows available'.

Is this me, the BBC or Naim? I don't think I have changed anything.

I've noticed this before, as have others who've posted here. The first thing I do is check if the programme is available directly from the BBC iPlayer app. If it is, it's probably worth raising the issue with Naim, who can ask vTuner if the programme can be made available.
Note that the BBC no longer provide the OD service on their own apps, as they have replaced it with a Downloads service. Obviously, Naim streamers can't switch to a downloads service as they have no storage.

I've noticed that downloads are now available too, but not that on demand streaming has been withdrawn - I use it via iplayer pretty much daily, up to and including yesterday.

Am I missing something?

Dave, on closer inspection of the iPlayer Radio app, you're right, the 'listen again' facility is still there. I guess that's the same as 'on demand', as it's called in the Naim app. Not that this helps the OP: as far as I can see the number of programmes available 'on demand' through the Naim app is limited compared to what is available on iPlayer, which is rather annoying at times.

Thanks everyone.

I used to get On Demand on my Uniti 2, then the BBC changed it, so Nail produced a firmware update (v4.3) which I installed and On Demand was available again. Nothing to do with iPlayer. Now it is still there on my equipment but there is no content! Have BBC stopped it again?

I think it's more likely that vTuner haven't made the programme you want available to the Naim streamers, even if it is available through iPlayer.

I seem to have lost virtually all the R4 on demand programmes. Certainly all the Archers episodes have gone - what a pain, it was working so well. Why do the BBC keep messing around.....

Did you check under 'arts, drama and specials' (or whatever similar thing it's called)? I couldn't find one or two things a while ago where I thought they should be, but it turned out that a lot of R4 content was getting chucked into that category.

I'm not sure whether that would be a BBC or a vtuner issue. Clarification would be good, if anyone at Naim knows one way or the other.

Ah.  Just got in and checked, and I can't see any R4 programmes under any On Demand heading.

Suspect there's something up at the other end.

Dave****t. A few weeks ago many of R3 programmes had been dumped in that category ie In Concert was there instead of under In Concert! They are nowhere now.

why are Naim so unhelpful over this? They seem to shrug their shoulders as if to say "nothing to do with us". I bought Naim as it was a premium product, but it is not a premium service they give. Their retailers are the same. If you are not listening to vinyl or, at the other end, an iphone they are lost.

What makes you say that? My experience of Naim dealers is good.

As far as I'm aware, this particular issue really is nothing to do with Naim. It's BBC, vtuner, or both. But an email to Naim support might elicit more info. They're usually fairly quick to respond. I'm content to give it a while to see what transpires.

Retailers will vary as regards their preferred format, but I'd expect proper support from all Naim dealers regardless. If your dealer is clueless beyond vinyl, I can't see them being typical of the majority in the trade. I'd suggest looking for another dealer.

The iPhone thing I sympathise with, though. The Android app still lags behind the iOS version, and in my case crashes virtually every time I try to use it. I've contacted Naim support and they said they'd talk to the software people about it. But for the time being, iOS users are better catered for.
