LS50 speakers

I asked a question a little while ago about the lack of bass coming from my LS50s. They are atteched to a Unitilite. I have since read a bit around the subject while considering replacing them or adding a sub. My current thinking is that the room is the culprit so would like some thoughts from people with more knowledge than me.
The room is only about 12 feet square, has a vaulted glass roof and wide bi-fold doors on the side. The floor is stone and there is a lack of soft furnishing. Room size dictates speakers close to rear and side walls, and sofa against opposite wall.
one thread I read introduced the concept of bass cancellation, which I think is based on the principle that in a relatively small room the direct sound from the speakers is getting mixed in with the reflected bass and causing some wave cancellation.
I am now thinking about how I can improve the situation. I am looking at either acoustic absorbing or dispersal mounts in strategic places. Current thinking is that absorption is probably not the best approach, but breaking up the bass, especially the bass reflected off the wall behind the speakers, might minimise the chance of it getting cancelled. Some basic reflecting panels behind the speakers would do the job fairly cheaply.
Any thoughts?
