unitiqute tidal
Posted by: jon h on 27 October 2015
got my unitiqute running latest firmware, so have switched it to tidal.
the front panel display says "Ready Use Naim App"... but which app? The one I use for the muso doesnt find the unitiqute... and it cant be the unitiserve app?
clearly i am missing something here...
ok seems it wont autodiscover my unitiqute and i have to do a manual add room and tell it that its a UQ
Hi John,
From what we see day to day that's usually an indication that your router's dropping Bonjour if autodiscovery isn't working ... What router are you using?
Phil
Yo Phil
All my networking is now Cisco Meraki, their cloud managed systems, which is incredibly good. And cheap enough that any serious home user (eg Naim customer) should be looking at it.
i will check for bonjour -- however, the iphone 6SPlus has no problem finding the Muso, which is also wired to the same network

Yo Jon!
OK - so your 6S Plus is OK but another device (what device and what version of OS? Are both the iPhone and the other device on the same WiFi network and not one on 2.4gig and one on 5gig) isn't finding the Mu-so?
If your iPhone is finding it then obviously it won't be a router issue and if the iPhone is finding the Mu-so then it also shouldn't be a Mu-so issue ... We're down to looking at what's different between the device that does see the Mu-so and the device that doesn't.
Phil
Ahha ... OK - Thanks John,
Right ... the Naim app is for *ALL* of the streamers (not just the Muso) and that's the app that you need to use to access TIDAL on any of our streamers as TIDAL is built right into the app.
So ... does your Naim app find your UnitiQute on your network at all? What version of firmware is your Qute running?
Cheers
Phil
Let me check again (wlll be later on today, somewhat snowed at the moment)
Qute is on latest firmware -- see thread in beta section for more info on that.
OK Jon,
So - when you say that you're on latest firmware are you on latest *PUBLIC RELEASE* firmware or are you on latest *BETA* firmware?
Can you 'see' the UnitiQute on a 'fing' (or similar) network scan?
Can you check that the Qute is still broadcasting Bonjour - I usually use Net Analyzer for this.
(See also https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...pnp-discovery-issues - I know you know this but I need to check and obviously need to ensure that appropriate info is here for anyone else that reads it in the future.)
Have you tried adding the UnitiQute to your app manually and in that case are you able to control the Qute from the Naim app?
Cheers
Phil
Yo Phil
OK, couple of things:
1) I had qute and muso listed, each in its own "room". I deleted the qute room. I cant delete the muso room -- why not?
2) At the bottom of the room screen, it says "add new muso". It should say "Add new Naim Streamer or Muso". Thats what confused me before, there was nothing to say "add new naim streamer"
3) I press the big plus button. It gives me Muso setup screen. Again no mention of Naim streamer
4) back to the room screen, I press the button top right and choose "Add room manually". I give it a name, and the ip address of the qute, and then under Product Type, I get to see the choices including Qute. None of this looks like auto discovery. I cant delete the Muso, to see if autodiscovery is working on that.
hope this helps
jon
Also, if I do "add room manually" and you ask me for the IP address, you really should bring up the numeric keypad....
Also: itunes on mac desktop sees the muso for airplay, as does my phone -- neither sees the qute (but im not sure if the qute is an airplay target?)

Because the Mu-so is being autodiscovered ... you can only delete devices that you have added manually. If you could delete the Qute then you must have added it manually before.
2) At the bottom of the room screen, it says "add new muso". It should say "Add new Naim Streamer or Muso". Thats what confused me before, there was nothing to say "add new naim streamer"
That would be because the "Add new Mu-so" option takes you through the Apple Wireless Setup process for the Mu-so and isn't applicable to the Naim streamers (ND / NAC-N and Uniti products) at all...
3) I press the big plus button. It gives me Muso setup screen. Again no mention of Naim streamer
Yup - that's because (as above) it takes you through the Apple Wireless Setup process for the Mu-so and isn't applicable to the Naim streamers (ND / NAC-N and Uniti products) at all ... remember there's no setup or configuration for any of the Naim Streamers from the app itself - the streamers have the front panel for their setup whereas teh Mu-so doesn't and so it is set up from the app.
4) back to the room screen, I press the button top right and choose "Add room manually". I give it a name, and the ip address of the qute, and then under Product Type, I get to see the choices including Qute. None of this looks like auto discovery. Absolutely correct ... The "Add room manually" adds a device manually if it isn't auto detected by the app.
To see whether auto discovery is working you can power off the Mu-so at the wall (which will obviously remove it from your network), then run up the app and you shouldn't see the Mu-so (obviously).
If you then close down the app, power up the Mu-so again (wait till it's back up and on your network and you can select internet radio from the top panel UI) and then run up the Naim app you should now see your Mu-so.
That should prove whether autodiscovery is working or not with the Mu-so...
...now, it *SHOULD* work the same with the Qute of course so we need to identify why it isn't.
Is there any difference in the network paths between the Mu-so and your WiFi network and the Qute and your WiFi network? (i.e. is one device wired through a different set or switches than the other which could be causing auto discovery issues?)
I know it's a very basic suggestion Jon (and I know you'll roll your eyes and sigh when I suggest it but I'm trying to illustrate some basic fault finding that anyone reading this in the future can take from it) but one thing that I'd be tempted to do would be to unplug the Qute quickly, pop it over to where the Mu-so is and plug the Mu-so's Ethernet connection to your network into the Qute (and, if possible pop the Mu-so over to where the Qute was and plug the Qute's Ethernet connection to your network into the Mu-so) and see whether you can now see the Qute and not the Mu-so...
Cheers

Correct ... the Qute is not an AirPlay target. The only device that we 'do' that is is the Mu-so.
Cheers
Phil
