Speaker Ideas for Unitiqute 2

Posted by: Richy on 27 October 2015

I'd like to get a new pair of speakers to replace my Neat Iotas and would like some suggestions please

Id like to speakers to have

- a small footprint - stand mount or small floorstanders

- work well relatively close to a wall (less than 12")

- not be too bass heavy

- work well with jazz rock and house / dance music

- cost upto £1500

suggestions please! :-).

I know most people won't take them seriously because they are so cheap (229 USD), but consider the new ELAC Debut B5.  I am running them with an original Qute in a small room, and they are fab, very meaty.

AHT,

Can those B5's be situated near a back wall or do they need free space around them?

Thanks for your input,

Hi Richy,

I looked at the iotas sensitivity and it said 84db. Thats a pretty hard to drive speaker! It must be much better then you think except that the uniqute lacks power to make it shine. But I understand that you want to keep the uniqute so you should try a 90db sensitivity speaker like the pmc 22 I think.

Mark, my B5's are about 12 inches from the back wall.  I haven't experimented much, since they are flush with a TV screen.  The designer Andrew Jones has stated that the B5 can be close to a wall, but the slightly larger B6 needs more space.

Maybe not after all : https://forums.naimaudio.com/to...-twenty-22-weak-bass

sorry, tought 90db+ was easy enough to drive but sometimes its more complicated then that.

I took Totem Rainmakers to use with my Uniti when I went out to Brasil. Realised I only had one shot at getting it right due to the difficulty of Brasilian Customs but think they were spot on, especially for a narrow room like I had in my apartment where they were only about 3" from the rear wall. For a small speaker they can certainly rock.
