Sad, sad news. Please be brave!

Yes, I have just read the news and have to confirm that it is true. Phil Collins is coming out of retirement. Just when we thought we could carry on with our lives. Please be on your guard and warn your children of the devastating effects of getting anywhere near any of his ear and soul damaging material.
Be strong as this may hopefully be just a passing phase!
It always amazes me the amount of crap thrown when someone mentions PC or Dire Straits. SO you don't like them but there are plenty of people who like many acts I think of as a waste of studio time.
I do like Genesis and Dire Straits. Not so keen on PC's solo stuff after the first 2 albums.
Howard, it also amazes me how sensitive some people are. It's always fine to talk about how much one likes a certain type of music or artist but god forbid if anyone criticises some of the darlings of the music world they are not so fond of. That is very hypocritical.
...But Seriously ?
So, in short, you do have a sense of humour and I was right all along!
Here is something especially for you. One my favourite Genesis tracks.
Good prompt, Tony. Must dig out Nursery Cryme over the weekend.

I have been so traumatised by that news Tony, I haven't been able to post here for days. Only now have I found the strength and courage to face the world and live a normal, rather than trying to emulate a deaf hermit. If Collins is to vent his foul "music" upon a long-suffering public, we must face down the threat together.
Already I am building up an impenetrable, Watersesque wall by listening to lots and lots of great sounds so that Collins' toxic tunes cannot harm me.
Be strong brother!
Mr Collins is an accomplished drummer and so he was while contrbuting to some of Genesis's albums but I do have an issue with his solo stuff.
As for tribalism, those who follow my posts will testify that I have quite an accommodating taste in music styles and musicians. I just cannot stand Phil Collins as a solo/singer "artist" along with Brian freaking Adams and so on.
@dayjay. The things one does for love!
You don't know the half of it Tony, the number of Tori Amos and Fish concerts I have been to.....
Tori and Fish are strange bedfellows indeed. I love the former but cannot abide the latter; it's interesting the people like both.
As for Phil Collins, perhaps his bank balance is running low. It worked for Leonard Cohen, who has produced a spectacular body of work since his cash went awol and forced him to record and tour. It may work for Phil. Or it may not.
This is why I don't get much into musical discussions. Too much tribalism, too much snobbery.
If you think tribalism, snobbery and one-upmanship has no place in music, music collecting, gig-going etc, then you're a bit naive (and, I have to say, missing out on a lot of fun).
Music - for young people especially - has always been pretty tribal.

How can you not like Fish Mr Halibut? A touch of self-loathing perhaps?
The facts, according to Rolling Stone:
http://www.rollingstone.com/mu...ger-retired-20151028
He can no longer play Drums. He has relocated to the US, recently. He has some other serious health issues. Suspect the Bank Balance Effect is at work, here.

I'm sure he's just codding
It's easy to be critical of HH's Phish opinions from your perch...but it's no fluke.
So I reckon that's an end of it...
You are welcome.

This thread's no plaice for all these puns.

Good opportunity to carp on though.
That's it I'm leaving on my Motorpike and side carp.
Will you be getting your skates on or are you just going for the halibut?

Holy mackerel, well played Tony.
And you are correct, since Collins is a drummer, not bass player.
You lot are terrible. This was a serious thread but the jokes here are wearing fin!
I agree Tony, people are really floundering. We need Tony Lockhart to contribute, he is a dab hand at jokes.
However, to get back on topic I still believe that Phil Collins has no sole, and his plaice as one of pop's naffest "stars" is secure.
This is all "Nonce Sense".
Oh I don't know, I'm having a whale of a time
Although there is no plaice for Phillet Collins in my collection, as he is complete and utter pollocks, I do enjoy a wide range of artists.
My fave dance act is Sole II Sole; jazz singer, Gwyneth Turbot; soundtrack composer, Gurnard Herrmann; of the industrial metal bands, I like Codflesh and my favourite Motown artist is Marlin Gaye.
I also have a soft spot for one-time Mercury Music Prize winners Anchovy & The Johnsons and Cliff's former backing group, The Shad-ows.
I like Carole Kingclip, but not the 70s stuff - I prefer the pop hits she wrote in the Brill Building in the '60s. And who could forget Salmon Dave, Dory Previn, Julian Bream or Barb Jungr?
And my absolute fave Dylan song is Ballad of a Fin Man.
My preferred listening medium is my Lincod Eel-P12, although I do like listening via my Denon tuna, even if the reception isn't great round here, as the bass response is better than you get with CD.
I should mention that my all-time favourite guitarist is Dave Gill-mour, and that I enjoy the records of JJ Scale and Elvers Presley.
Other tunas I enjoy are "How Long?" by Dace, "The Twist" by Chub Checker and "Sister Ray" by the Velvetfish Underground.
Still not had enough? Don't worry, eel be back!
The 'Oscar' for best piscine humour in a Phil Collins thread without causing a roe...envelope please...goes to Kevin-W!
The prize is an autographed picture of Jack Dempsey.
However I am amazed you didn't mention Aretha Franklin, the "Queen of Sole."
