N272 DAB/FM module benefits

Posted by: Dan43 on 30 October 2015

Just a quick post on the back of the 272 aerial post.

My 272/250DR order has been delayed by a 2-3 weeks due to a parts shortage so I can add the DAB/FM module if I want.

Wasn't too bothered but what would be the advantage in having this or the gains?

I have a DAB radio I can feed into the 272 via optical input but would the module provide anything extra?

Curious as I would add it but can't quite decide.

Many thanks

I suppose it depends how much you value FM / DAB. If it's just for general background / casual listening then i'd stick to internet radio.

Just out of interest what was the parts shortage on, the 272 or the 250? Slightly worried as I ordered the same combo this week!

Ryder35,

Wasn't explained to me, the dealer said your (my) system, due at the end of October, will now be delayed by about 3 weeks due to a parts shortage. I didn't push either to be honest.

Ok Thanks

Might get in touch with my dealer to check!

Naim's FM module is very good, although I think it's only really worthwhile if you're a Radio 3 listener. DAB is a waste of time in my opinion.

I've got the FM /DAB module and it's great, but then I really like listening to Radio 3 and 4. These sound a lot better on FM than on the HLS streams. So, if you like listening to these stations, it's worthwhile. If not, it most probably isn't.

Thanks all for the feedback.

I am sticking without the module as internet radio is what I listen to mostly, such a classic rock and general rock stations that are mostly web based.

NAIM radio and others I really like also and are web based so fine with that also.

Thanks again.

A friend of mine has just been told his NAC N272 will be delayed by two weeks (ie on top of the normal one week delivery) because of a rejected batch of "faceplates".

Mine was delayed due to a lack of fronts and main boards. Demand has been far higher than Naim expected, which seems to be the root of the problem. It's worth waiting though, because the 272 is bloody brilliant.

If you like Radio 3 and 4 FM is essential in my view.   Even in Mrs Strat's VW Polo the FM performance is clearly more listenable than DAB.
