New NAP300DR - rant

Posted by: Zeny on 30 October 2015

Just received my new NAP300DR to pair with my 252DR, and guess what... There is no burndy cable in the box!! Seriously pissed off. Great QC Naim.

I have contacted my dealer who promised to rectify the matter urgently but as I'm not in the UK it will probably be a couple of weeks before I can fire up the power amp. This is ridiculous for a 10,000 euro power amp.

Was the box factory sealed?

Posted on: 30 October 2015 by Zeny
Yes it is factory sealed. After few hours i am still so pissed. Naim can preach about manufacturing to tight tolerances but they cannot even remember to put a cable in the box.

I would be asking for some sort of remuneration. a powerline or hiline maybe.

UPS can get a small parcel pretty much anywhere on the planet in a couple of days so there's no way you should have to wait two weeks.

I was so looking forward to spending time with the NAP300DR this weekend and actually intended to post a first impressions thread but now there is only silence. Really unacceptable.

Must admit I have a different definition of what constitutes 'urgent' and 'unacceptable'. Mistakes happen, nobody died.

Talk about a first world problem!

I guess you never experience staring at a high end amplifier that you paid 10,000 euro and waited 3 weeks for that you can't turn on because the high end manufacturer that you supposedly trusted in forgot to put the cable in the box.
Posted on: 31 October 2015 by Bruce Woodhouse

Well no, but I have experienced things a lot more important.

Someone accidentally forgot to pack the cable, is that really such a terrible thing? maybe you also make mistakes occasionally.

Does it really matter that you will wait a teeny bit longer?

It is a disappointment for sure, but the anticipation will make the pleasure of ownership that much greater maybe. You have to wait weeks for it to run in anyway!

I understand your frustration, I would also just want it to work. However like some said, it might be just a couple of days with fedex, Dhl....

i hope you will then be able to fully enjoy it....

Oh my god Zeny I'm going to suffer all weekend for you..............
Posted on: 31 October 2015 by The Strat (Fender)
.............and I've always found that you are likely to get a far more favourable resolution by dealing with issues on a private basis rather than through a full on public declaration of your angst!

When something like this happens to you I know exactly how you feel. Just don't, in your frustration lose sight of a couple points:

1. Having a product screwup doesn't necessarily mean there is is a QC issue. Nothing is 100%. The real issue is how often it happens overall. Not much comfort when you are the one hit by lightning I know.

2. Why did't your dealer double check when it came in? I'm also not in the UK so my overseas dealer opens every box I buy to check everything is there and working before shipping on to me. They know I also don't take disappointment well.

Why not contact your Dealer, or Naim - rather than rant about it. If its a genuine mistake or oversite, I am sure Naim or your Dealer would prefer to deal with it professionally.

I am also wondering why your dealer didn't check this, too. I have never bought a sealed box, with Naim in. They have always been opened, checked, listed to. Thats what your dealer should do.

So... Your Dealer is....??

PS. Actually, as you clearly hate this product so much, I suggest you take it back for a full refund, then sell your other Naim kit. Then leave the Naim forum. For Ever.

Naim forgot to put a cable in the box, and you’re asking me to sell all my naim kit and leave the forum?

On specific orders like the NAP300DR my dealer sends me the sealed boxes and let me have the (dis)pleasure of opening them.

If you see my first post above I’ve already sorted out the matter with my dealer before I posted in the forum. I know it is not a huge deal (just a cable, right?) and it will definitely be rectified in due course but I’m just very pissed that I have waited 3 weeks for this amp and on opening the box I couldn’t even switch the damn thing on. I even made no other plans for this weekend just so I can listen to this thing.

Anyway I am not seeking any redress or sympathy in this public forum. Like the title says this is a rant, and I think in the circumstances I’ve earned the right to rant.

Oh and since no post is complete without pics, here are a couple pics of the subject system. Power is not switched on for obvious reasons.

Don't worry Zeny. I'm not attacking you. There isn't a guy on the planet who hasn't got something home at last to find they can't use it right away.

Classic tears before bedtime scenario like when a kid opens up a long anticipated toy to batteries not included or a vital Lego bit missing.

Just take a deap breath and remember thesr things just happen.

Hi Zeny,

I collected my new 300 DR yesterday from my dealer, and  he told me that the couple which had arrived there earlier in the week were also missing their Burndy cables.

Fortunately, he always opens the boxes to check, and so the problem had been sorted before I arrived there.

It's an unfortunate omission, and one which I'm sure won't still be happening, since the matter has been reported back to Salisbury.

What should have been a two hour drive home with my new amps turned into a four hour nightmare, due to the M6 motorway resembling a car park, so by the time I got home, I was too tired to contemplate setting things up...................not in the same league as your situation I know, but I do feel your pain!

You're quite right in what you say, it's not the end of the world as we know it, but you are certainly excused at having a rant.

Hopefully, it will eventually prove to have been worth the wait, though my guy did warn me that the 300DR won't sound wonderful straight out of the box.

Sympathetically,

Dave.

Most of us would feel seriously pissed off. Whether we'd tackle it this way is another matter.

Naim make a big deal about and charge a huge premium for their quality control - when they screw up like this it's not unreasonable to be royally p*ssed off and shout about it, especially on a Naim forum.

This is very much a first world forum.  I think most of the Third World issues are discussed elsewhere, on forums that don't have threads about €10000 amplifiers.

Shit happens. You'll have the Burndies soon.

What a nasty little post. I am struggling to understand why you would add this little sarcastic barb to your response. Do you feel so protective of Naim that you need to respond in this way?

Ok, this relatively minor issue is not the and of the world, but I think that most of us would feel equally frustrated were this to happen to us. I probably wouldn't have posted to the forum quite so aggressively, but there is no need for your over-the top response. I hope that your response was meant to be taken as a 'joke' that didn't quite work.

Zeny, I can feel how annoyed and disappointed you must be. Sometimes, no matter how you try to ensure all runs perfectly, things just happen. Anyway, I've messaged Naim and let them know the problem. I'm sure they will sort this out for you as quickly aspossible.

Totally understand how the OP feel about this. If naim can forget a simple thing like cable in the box. How many hundreds of screw up can occur or not up to standard during mfg of the product that we are unaware of?
Posted on: 31 October 2015 by Zeny
Thanks Richard, anyway my dealer will sort it out with Naim.

Kaydee, that's how I feel exactly. Though I've calmed down somewhat the new NAP300DR already lost its luster and no longer feels like the shiny new toy that it was supposed to be.

Have you had any Naim products that are faulty in any way? Nope, neither have I, and I've had lots.
