New NAP300DR - rant

Posted by: Zeny on 30 October 2015

Just received my new NAP300DR to pair with my 252DR, and guess what... There is no burndy cable in the box!! Seriously pissed off. Great QC Naim.

I have contacted my dealer who promised to rectify the matter urgently but as I'm not in the UK it will probably be a couple of weeks before I can fire up the power amp. This is ridiculous for a 10,000 euro power amp.

I've had my own 'catastrophe'

i ordered a new counterweight for my turntable arm pro-jet 9cc and received the wrong counterweight today!

here we go again

we had the obligatory "watch" reference (seiko) before so now need some form of car reference to complete the requirements of a full "man conversation" (sans sport - thats for another thread completely)

Man conversation - What about DIY?

I recently ordered a new heating element for our range cooker only to be told that they're out of stock.  No home-cooked sunday roasts for a month

Did you get any discount for buying the last batch of 250.2? Also i feel the agent should oblige to let you know that there is a upcoming DR revision coming up? Are you able to work out a trade in of your 250.2 for a DR since your amp is not too old?

I am pretty lucky to trade in my 200 at a good price awhile ago with minimum top up for a 250DR.

More women-conversation would be better, methinks...

However, maybe this has just become a thread for trading catastrophes and damnations of timing or choices as we as we while away the time waiting for the OP's closure (equipment of course, not life, as after all by definition the Naim name and forum arent the third worod, as some have been at pains to point out)

You can of course upgrade the 250.2 to 250 DR but 995 upgrade cost, and then the shipping back to UK isn't going to be cheap.

I quite like the review of the 300DR, I don't get the negative comments about it. What is a reviewer to say, it is better and leave it at that and finish the review in 2 sentences?

analogmusic, I placed my order in the first week of April.

It was sold to me at an attractive price though. He is not aware or heard anything of the DR products at that time but DR news was already widely discussed here. I think I should check into this forum more often for latest update

Sorry for the late update, been enjoying my 300DR.

Parcel reached me today (Saturday), which is 7 days after I received my 300DR boxes (last Saturday). No free gift from Naim, but no biggie as I am already grinning from ear to ear. Even though burndys should not have been missing from the boxes, Naim has resolved it speedily, with no questions asked and most importantly, treated me with courtesy and respect.

You guys are right, once the amps are fired up all the past anguish is gone in an instant.

Thanks to everyone who has extended kind words in this thread. For those with not so kind words, I wish to say I enjoyed reading your comments and responding to them.

Here are the obligatory concluding pics.

Hi Zeny,

Phew!

I trust you are as happy with the sound straight out of the box as I was..........much to look forward to!

Oh.............and you can update your profile now!

Dave.

Excellent, now tell us, how does it compare to the previous amp?

Much, much better (I think, yes - for sure)

Posted on: 07 November 2015 by Zeny

analogmusic, it's not so simple I'm afraid. It's not where I can say one is better than the other. It sounds like.... Naim. My ears are used to tubes and actually my very first impression was, 'this sounds weird'. Give a few days for the kit to warm up and my ears to adjust to this presentation and I'll report back. .......... Wait I take that back, starting to sound rather fine now!

Dave, yes just updated

Nice looking configuration Zeny!!

The amp has been on for several hours now. The first hour it sounded a bit rough but it kept getting better and better. Lots of prat and very high on emotional content. Very pleased. The 300DR is a class act! (no buzzing too)

Zeny, looking at your pics again I note the hard shiny floor, Reminiscent of a warm country...) - the room suggests significant and multiple sound reflections - does that cause problems, or have you got absorbent or diffucion materials or panels not visible other than the curtains and seats?

Posted on: 09 November 2015 by Zeny
There are a few pieces of auralex soft absorbers behind the sofa which are not visible in that picture. I used to have a carpet underneath the sofa but removed it because I am lazy to clean and maintain it. The hard floor does cause some minor reflection but so far it has not caused any irritation and I don't even notice it until you mentioned it in your post.
