New NAP300DR - rant
Posted by: Zeny on 30 October 2015
I have contacted my dealer who promised to rectify the matter urgently but as I'm not in the UK it will probably be a couple of weeks before I can fire up the power amp. This is ridiculous for a 10,000 euro power amp.
Simon, my dealer apologized profusely for the missing burndys even though it wasn't their fault. They promised to rectify the matter urgently and it was me who after staring at a silent NAP300DR for a while that felt the need for a good rant. After Richard Dane saw my post, Steven Hopkins got in touch with me directly and asked who my dealer was. He then arranged to ship the cables to my dealer who would then forward them to me. My dealer often send me the factory sealed boxes because they know I prefer opening them myself.
Zeny, Why didnt you insist on the fastest method of delivery?
That is the professionalism and care taken by Chord, and I will never forget it.
I wanted to test drive an interconnect from Chord costing IIRC in the region of £1,975. It didn’t sound very convincing and it wasn’t until I was taking if off that I noticed it was terminated with adaptors rather than native plugs (BNC). I asked Chord if I could try a natively terminated lead and their response was “We’ve got people queuing round the block for this cable. We can’t make it fast enough. Stop wasting our time”.
That is the level of professionalism shown to me by Chord and I will never forget it.
Suggesting that one company is unprofessional/shoddy because another company treated you nice works in both directions and doesn't really mean anything. Not that I'm defending Naim's error.
Happy, Steven said he will resolve it the fastest way. I'm not familiar with Fedex so do not know if there is a faster mode. I thought sending it from Hong Kong would be faster but I don't think I have the right to ask for that.
If you don't ask you don't get.

I very much doubt that economy delivery will be the fastest way. Didnt you look at that and have doubts, and raise a query?
Didn't raise a query, though on hindsight I should, let me send an email to Steven and see what he says.
unfortunately you ship may have sailed.... Your dealer and Steven Hopkins @ Naim are mature people, so you should not need to worry about this anymore.
this should be sorted out between Naim and your dealer.
But as they say "this too shall pass" and you will forget all this once the burndy arrives
The burndys are still at Naim I believe. Fedex will only pick them up today. Email has been sent, now awaiting reply.
Is the 300 burndy the same as the 500 burndy? If not, the 300 burndy must be the most unique cable in the world.
Steven replied to say that the shipment has been upgraded to Fedex International Priority. Good man!
Now the scheduled delivery date says Monday...... would be so much nicer if it reaches this Friday.
Now that sounds much more like it. Im surprised that it only makes 1 day difference in delivery but naim now appear to have done their best for you. Fingers crossed, maybe it will arrive by Friday.
Thanks happy, yes this sounds much more like it. I'll update upon receipt, with pics.
which was your previous Naim power amp?
I was using the 252DR with a Chord 4 pin din to rca cable into a non-Naim power amp.

Zeny - ok thanks for the explanation... its a shame he could not have lent you his NAP300 demo Burndy - assuming he has one - until the replacement from the UK arrived
Simon
when you got the 300 DR which is the matching power-amp for the 252SCDR, you can expect musical magic, smiles and enjoyment.
It's been said that most of the Naim sound comes from the preamp- but I find that you need both Naim preamp and Naim power amp to get the full Naim musical magic
In the old days of naim this would have probably been sent by the fastest post, regardless of cost. If I had just paid many thousands for a piece of kit that was incomplete then I would have asked for, or even demanded this service, as that is part of what we are paying for.
Things do go wrong from time to time but its how they are dealt with when they do. I personally think over a week wait for economy delivery is poor customer service from naim on this occasion.
Absolutely agree!
Most 'express' delivery services to Hong Kong from UK ony commit to "up to 3 working days", and the OP sounds as if he's somewhat more remote, so maybe he is getting the best practical service available - what was perhaps disconcerting was the apparent initial intent to send economy - although in practice it seems that the time difference is actually quite small.
Parcel has left salisbury and reached fareham. Interesting, I'm learning geography.

I would be surprised if that was what they really said, please can you show us what was actually said and by whom. My experience of Chord has been exemplary; they have gone out of their way to get things back to me. I've certainly never had a response like you describe.
Amazing, a rant is about to become the longest thread on this Forum. What is possibly going to top it ...... a FART ?!
A Himmelfahrt perhaps? After self-immolation, possibly!
ATB from George

No, clearly with delivery of the said Burndy cable it will stop - but there should be plenty of time to double the length before that happens. However, should it fail to arrive, or be the wrong one, or not work...
not sure urge how it got onto watches though.

Fareham is only 10 minutes away from me. Perhaps I should intercept them....
