New NAP300DR - rant

Posted by: Zeny on 30 October 2015

Just received my new NAP300DR to pair with my 252DR, and guess what... There is no burndy cable in the box!! Seriously pissed off. Great QC Naim.

I have contacted my dealer who promised to rectify the matter urgently but as I'm not in the UK it will probably be a couple of weeks before I can fire up the power amp. This is ridiculous for a 10,000 euro power amp.

Having said that, I do consider it important to voice out when we receive a significantly less than ideal customer experience, and to give credit where it is due. When I pay a significant amount for a premium amplifier, or any other product, I expect the company to have stress-tested the amplifier and double checked every single item in the box before shipping it out. Incidents like missing burndys should never have happened. Remember this promo picture of how Naim lavishes so much care and attention on its hand-made amplifiers?

Naim provides a public forum for us to discuss our experience as customers of the company. I don’t consider it immature or wrong to voice my dissatisfaction as a customer of a Naim product, on a Naim forum.

Zeny,

I have made it very clear that you are entitled to voice your dissatisfaction. I don't consider it was necessary. And I certainly don't consider it was done in a mature way.

I have also made it clear that I bet Paul S has already taken steps to reduce a recurrence to as low as reasonably practicable across the entire Naim UK range.

I'm intrigued about loving above your means...

(Dayjay, please don't correct what I assume is a typo, it's too good!)

But if someone lives above their means, it still means they're spending - and that is what counts when considering wealth compared to the bulk of the world's population.

however I contend this whole question of wealth, and third world, has nothing to do with any individual's depth of feeling when let down by a supplier when they are spending their money.

Ha!  Dodgy typing throughout my post but he was, indeed, loving well above his means and two ex wives and associated children can be expensive

Absolutely. I only introduced the £40K and the first decile as a response to Don's dissing of the Nap300 DR as mid-range I don't want to detract from the thread's theme which for me is about how we deal with adversity.

However that would only be because the OP did have his rant, prompting this whole thread. So actually anyone ordering the same - or maybe any other Naim amp - might reap the benefit and find the burndy cable is indeed included as expected.

Hi Zeny,

Finally got my new 300 DR up and running this morning.

It's taken since last Friday to achieve this, as one of the Burndys was, shall we say, not quite as it should have been.

I refrained from mentioning this over the last few days, so's not to add to your sense of frustration.

Naim couriered me a replacement pair straight away, and, if it's any consolation to you, then it sounds much better out of the box than I had been led to expect.

Hope you find the same when your cables arrive, and that it will prove to have been worth the wait.

Regards,

Dave.

I've just read this thread again after a gap of a few days.  This one took an unexpected turn :-)

Wow, seriously you too Dave?

I'm very happy for you. Show us some pics of the shiny new amp!

Yes, when I picked it up, my dealer said that the Burndys hadn't been packed, though since he always checks the boxes, he'd put things right before I got there.

However, on getting home, the locking collar on one of the Burndys wasn't engaging correctly, so my dealer had Naim courier me a replacement pair, whilst I posted the originals back to him.

All's well that ends well, the music's flowing again, and the smiles are back.

Phew!

Dave.

Talking about stress-testing, I sure hope Naim did stress test the burndys before sending them halfway across the globe to me. This thread would be much longer if on arrival the burndys wouldn't lock properly.

great that Naim lept to your support Zeny.

i'm sure the long journey will stress the burndies enough...

I'm not really a fan of burndies, but that's neither here nor there --  I have loads of them in my active system and i think we just 'tolerate' each other...

enjoy

Much sympathy with Zeny after reading all the contents of this unfortunate event.

Once it is resolved, hopefully soon, then let us know what you make of the (hopefully) more positive set of experiences!

I have had my own 'things that went wrong' with Naim but have found their after-sales service as mediated by my Dealer exceptionally positive. Always better not to have any problems in the first place, but things do go wrong, so getting it resolved quickly is important.

Zeny - my boss called me late Monday evening. The £40K + exec car delivered to her new last Thursday suffered a full on transmission failure on Monday evening on the M6 Toll north of Birmingham.  She had to be taxied home, missed picking her children up, had to get her neighbour to take them to school yesterday morning and ask me to divert to give her a lift to the Office.  We did the same today although finally they have got a courtersy vehicle to her today.

And.....................she hasn't ranted at all.

Has she a forum like this on which to rant? I wouldn't expect my boss to rant to me, and I wouldn't to my staff, about such a thing, but I would to the manufacturer, and might do to any manufacturer's support club of which I was a member etc...

And what was mentioning the hassle of missing children getting home and having to get neighbors to pick up, if not at least a minor rant?

My point has been and still is, that a RANT on a public forum is immature.

Zeny could have brought this undesirable situation to Naim's attention and our attention in a far more mature way, ie by posting details of the situation, without the immature rant. The outcome would have been the same.

No I heard on her phone to the dealer in the office - she was rational but assertive about the whole thing.

And the point about her children - I shouldn't be surprised that I have to explain this - was not a rant but putting into context what inconvenience really is.

Chris

Given the 500 and Statement, plus the concept of active power amps, I am of the opinion that a single 300 power amp is in Naim's mid-range, as opposed to its lower-range or starter-range.

And I would agree that most people on this forum are in the upper 10% in terms of global income.

Very good description of this thread.....dealing with adversity.

Yet the rant did get the OPs solution ramped up in priority...

and there seem to be many on here who have been able to see it as a valid means of letting off steam, while also prompting various discussions about a sims response, and customer service in general (not to mention watches).

Whilst I probably wouldn't have said anything myself, I for one have no problem with someone having a rant here - and anyone who doesn't like someone having a rant didn't need to even read the thread, let alone spend time responding, so I'm still struggling to see why there are criticisms of the OP for doing so.

Strat, given my understanding of women, I'm pretty sure she ranted to her husband.  I have to listen to my wife's rant all the time.

Don, if I haven't ranted, I wouldn't have been able to listen to your comment (rant) about me ranting. That's what this forum is about isn't it, each of us exercising our freedoms of speech, within civilised limits, of course. Certainly none of my posts breach any forum rules, as none was censored.

My first few posts may be rather, crude, so to speak, but it was made at the time when I was not in the best of moods.

I don't think anybody has broken forum rules in this thread.

Of course you are free to rant. I've made that clear several times. And others are free to express their views about whether ranting is immature or not.

There' no real need to explain why your first few posts were crude, it was all pretty obvious.
