New NAP300DR - rant

Posted by: Zeny on 30 October 2015

Just received my new NAP300DR to pair with my 252DR, and guess what... There is no burndy cable in the box!! Seriously pissed off. Great QC Naim.

I have contacted my dealer who promised to rectify the matter urgently but as I'm not in the UK it will probably be a couple of weeks before I can fire up the power amp. This is ridiculous for a 10,000 euro power amp.

Naim seems to be heading in a questionable direction, after an administrator and an employee of Naim made reference to a reply and a member of this forum was referred to a very demeaning and insulting name, after spending several thousands of dollars on their equipment, and seeing first hand this kind of disrespect towards a customer they will never see another dollar from me!

Parcel has reached south east asia, looks like high chance I'll be getting the burndies very soon. Keeping fingers crossed.

I must have missed this. I have only seen Richard Dane respond with concern and assistance. Where are these posts?

This rather unfortunate tale of woe appears to have generated some strong responses on both sides of the argument. And the opinions seem to be fairly evenly split. Some saying the OP has over-reacted and even accusing the OP of being immature, others fully supporting the OP and understanding his frustration and annoyance from such a basic error having spent a lot of money.

Naim seem to be on the case but I can't help thinking such a public airing helped focus their attention. I am sure changes will be made to ensure it doesn't happen again.

I guess what has surprised me is the strength of feeling this debacle has generated, how evenly split the opinion is and how long the discussion has gone on for. Many forum members seem to have a position on this and I have made my thoughts clear way, way back in the thread.

So what is it about this particular issue that has caused such strong feelings to be vented? If I might be so bold as to suggeest a possible reason.

Do you know I am really not sure. It might be something to do with feelings of huge disappointment we have all experienced at sometime in our lives. And before anyone gets upset, yes, no one has died and third world issues will always trump this one but that is missing the point. It is only natural that some of us feel empathy, indeed sympathy for others who are in this situation and want to offer our support on such occasions. But why do others on here feel the opposite and seek to add context to an over-reaction as they would see it?

It may have something to do with human fallibility - the fallabilty of the the staff in the Naim packing department - the fallabilty of any of us suffering disappointment and the resulting (sometimes unguarded and irrational) displays of irritation - the OP himself described it as a rant.

It it has been a facinatiing thread to read and I don't think I can recall such polarised opinions on a topic. This is definitely the Marmite of all topics.

Thank heavens we all have our opinions and thank heavens we have such a forum to vent them. And thank heavens none of us have to deal with third world issues on a daily basis. The one precious gift we all have in our developed world is freedom of speech. Long may it rule.

Night night.

The posts were removed and not even so much as an apology from the administrator. Very sad! Don't think Julian would be very proud of these actions.

Ummmm...I missed this.

Would it be too much to ask the Moderators for an explanation as this apparent lapse is out there?

Richard Dane and other Naim staff have always been very professional and real gentlemen.

I can't understand all the negativity.

Zeny will receive his Burndys, he will be very happy with his 300 DR and let us know just how good it is.

+1 Well said. Richard has always been the epitome of helpfulness and professionalism. HE does NAim proud.

Wouldn't it be great if Zeny could provide us with the tracking number for his Burndy parcel so everyone here could follow its dispensation? I'm waiting with bated breath to hear of its arrival so I can put closure to this entire travesty.

Sad week for the forums when this leads...

Posted on: 04 November 2015 by analogmusic

yes when Zeny gets his burndy request Richard Dane to delete this thread.

Zeny can open a new thread for his impression on the 300 DR.

Joe, the parcel has arrived at a neighbouring country, two hours by air to my dealer. If I don't get it tomorrow, due to customs clearance etc, then latest will be Saturday. I'm more than glad if I can receive on Saturday. That means the matter is fully resolved in only 7 days. Good stuff.

Posted on: 04 November 2015 by joerand

Zeny,

Good stuff indeed! I truly hope your parcel arrives ASAP and your 300 is all or more than you anticipated. For me, this thread is an interesting read of people's sociological perspectives.

For me this thread is a reminder of why I never usually read (or indeed contribute) to the HiFi part of the Forum. Too much obsession with kit, too little music (and indeed perspective) for my taste.

Sorry if my post at the outset only stirred the fire.

I hope Zeny is happy with his stuff when it arrives. I'm sure he will let you know. Personally I will look away now!

This thread should be pinned for ever.  Naim Burndy Guy meme was born here.

I think I missed this too..

Badlands, you're angry about what you consider to be a disrespect shown by me towards a customer.  I'm not aware of any such disrespect (either demeaning or insulting) so, please could you tell me what has made you feel this way. If you prefer to do this by email rather than in public, then by all means please do so by emailing Naim for my attention.

p.s. As far as I can recall, no posts have been removed by me from this thread.  Post removal or editing is only done by me where offensive language is used or forum rules are broken.

I have spoken via phone and email to the good people @ Naim (Phil Harris Steve Hopkins and Richard Dane) for many years now, and it is simply not possible for any of them to be anything but professional and mature.

No idea what badlands is talking about. Some kind of agenda ?

Loss of credibility comes to mind, and I will be putting badlands on my ignore list. Really and truly amazed by the lack of transparency by this forum member.

I for one will continue to buy Naim Products and they will always have me as a customer.

I think badlands should produce the evidence (there isn't any though), or apologize for the malicious attempt to accuse people in a wrong and dishonest manner.

Fair point Analogue but as one of the protagonists on this thread (guilty as charged) I think I'll go for a cup of coffee!!!!

Is it possible that some member posted something, then regretted the wording and deleted it in a short space of time such that no-one saw it except Badlands, who then assumed it was removed by a moderator?

There would of course have been an email notification of the post sent to people accepting notifications of posts, so if (unlike me) anyone hasn't deleted their email notifications any record would lie somewhere in that trail.

Posted on: 05 November 2015 by Richard Dane

Rather than have lots of idle speculation here - or even, dare I say, some from of "witch hunt", I think it best that posts keep on topic.  Badlands can let me know the details of her concerns and grievances and I will hopefully get to the bottom of it all.

IB, yes, members can edit or delete their own posts within a fairly short time window.  Maybe that's what has happened here.  I have to admit I'd be interested to know myself as I and some other Naim employee stand accused here. So if anyone knows, please e-mail me via naim, or else message me on my wall.
