New Sonos update to introduce BBC HLS streaming ?!?

Posted by: ChrisH on 31 October 2015

I received an e mail yesterday informing me  of the above update as well as the fact they are still working to introduce access to archived content via Tunein.

I don't have Sonos anymore, but I found this interesting.

Weve been enjoying this via Naim streamers for a while now.

The wheels of progress at Naim don't always move slowly as evidenced in this case when Naim were able to introduce this far in advance of a huge organisation like Sonos with all the resources they have at their disposal.

Steady on.

As an avid radio listener and HDX user I'm still waiting for Naim to sort this out for customers like me.

And as a Sonos user I got that email too.

We still use Sonos because streaming services like Tidal are not available on the HDX.

So credit to Naim for fixing this for their streamer users but I'm not sure that the 'server' (as the HDX has been repositioned by Naim) users would completely share in  this sentiment.

Fair point John.

Im both a Naim streamer and a server customer so hadn't thought about that.

It does strike me that the HDX should get additional services added to it as the 'high performance hub' it is marketed as, more so than perhaps the Unitiserve, hopefully this will happen.

I was thinking that the perception is that Naim move slowly, but in this case they beat the populist 'guns' by some distance, which is refreshing to see.

With the resources they have - and given the size of the company - they certainly try hard.

As I have written before, with the uncertainty about feather Development I would not advice friends to buy a new hdx. On the other hand the only friend WHO was considering going from cds to streaming bought a used hdx last  year, so my hifi consultancy abilities are  not valued anyway.

And are they happy with their choice?
