Powerline Placement
Posted by: Zeny on 02 November 2015
I only have one powerline, the one that came with the 555DR, and 3 normal leads. I also have a wireworld matrix power distribution block, an NDS, a 252 and a 300. Where should I place the powerline? What does the powerline do exactly?
Putting the one Powerline from wall socket to the Wireworld Matrix block would be my guess of best place .
Thats where i currently put it, but not sure if it is 'technically' correct.
There isn't a right answer. Try it in all locations and see which you feel gives the most benefit.
No point asking on a forum as you'Lloyd get several different answers.
Just make sure its not near your Burndy cable.
What does the powerline do exactly?
I’m a little surprised that you did not ask this before paying £515 for the cable.
I have no idea by the way, so I would be interested to know as well.

If it came with a 555, it's not a £515 upgrade; it's what comes as standard.
Ah yes sorry, I have just re-read Zeny's post, it is still a bit early in the morning for me I'm afraid!
Hi Zeny.
If your happy with the Matrix block - for £75 the Wireworld Stratus 7 mains cable would be worth trying from wall socket to the strip. With the Powerline tried on the Naims.
With your level of gear its best practice to have everything powerlined fed from a distribution unit that has been recognised by the Naim community as up to the job - or run with other branded cables and distribution devices that you feel confident gives you the sound you want.
cheers
Thanks toby, I'll check that out. I believe in good speaker cables and interconnects but somehow still not warmed up to the idea of good mains leads as they don't carry any audio signal.
Well it's a good idea to be sceptical about such things, and I have read plenty of posts on this forum from people who are more than happy running everything with the standard cables.
Best to keep an open mind, do some research and try things out and decide if your ears find favour after covering ground.
Much of the Powerline benefit comes from decoupling the directly connected Naim unit from vibrations carried through the cable and eddy currents (which often arise in a power cable itself). This is lost to a large degree if the single cable you have is used between a wall socket and a mains block instead of connecting to a piece of equipment directly.
With that in mind and also taking the source first philosophy, I would keep it on the 555PS. As per the instructions, make sure it doesn't touch any signal cables (interconnects and speaker cables) on its way from socket to the 555PS.
Get someone to help and blind test in all configurations
Only blind testing will realise the full potential (or not) of any component - cables included
The above based on extensive past experience(s)
I found my sole Powerline to be best into the Wireworld Matrix block. This way everything gets some of the benefit.
