LP12 Very Bass Heavy

Posted by: Zook on 02 November 2015

Just set up an LP12 with my Naim 62/140, running through Monitor Audio BX5's.

Playing The Stone Roses and Exile, and the bass is really 'booming', volume isn't really cranked either. Basically the bass is really overpowering the music, not where I want to be, and pretty sure it shouldn't sound like this.

Any ideas?

How about this for embarrassing. I never realised who Zook was. The 62/140 he has was originally mine. Had I known I could have saved a lot of discussion as I only used it with MM carts.

His avatar is more cool.

I made you a new avatar so you can move towards being on par with Richard (Knight Rider UK).

Very similar theme, but somewhat more unique. We can also go with hair parted to the other side, Christopher...

Going full art we can try varying color combinations, let me know and I'll share my rates with you (so far you've incurred no charges)!

Thoughts?

Ummm,

Sneaky.  Holloween is over two days ago...

Thank you Sneaky, especially for your dry suggestion that my 'hair' might need parting.

You're not wrong bud, local Naim Dealer Lintone, Audiobarn, Moorgate and Naim Audio themselves don't have any. My father got back to me however, and still has his pair, straight swop for mine and a few Cask Ale sweeteners, done deal, happy days...! Worth checking closer to home every time.

Why don't you try James at Tom Tom Audio? He specialises in vintage Naim Audio equipment - I dare say he has the world's largest collection of Naim history. I'd be surprised if he can't help you with the boards you require.

Great news! Let us know how it sounds once you have it all sorted out.

Will your father adopt me?

Pleased you have it sorted Chris. The 62/140 sounds sweet with the LP12.

Cheers Steve, aye, first heard it on my Father's system many years ago, remember it being a sweet sound, he upgraded his amps, then it was CD's only..!

Looks nicer in my house anyway...

HI again Guys,

Got a new issue. I've changed out the phono boards from my father's system. Went for the grand start-up, now all of a sudden I am not getting power to the preamp, ie - the green light is not lit and no sound from anywhere. I have tried two different SNAIC 4's and same issue, any suggestions?

Link plug is fitted too, real scratch the head moment..!
