Naim is a great Audio company

Posted by: AussieSteve on 04 November 2015

I have just read a few articles on Naim, and it's founder Julian Vereker. The Wiki post is quite informative, and after reading that,  I developed an even greater appreciation of being a member of our Naim family. We have a company whom understand the delicate nature of electricity in the audio chain more than most. It's when I look at top tier $$$$ products from Constellation, Esoteric, Siltech, or Solution whom all use separate power supplies and which cost over one hundred thousand dollars per amp, that I see how insightful our company is. Apparently EVERY component is tested before shipping, using listening tests and care in the finished product, recent mishap accepted. I'm a relative puppy to Naim, and having spent $35K so far on kit I reckon it's been some of the best money I have spent. Now my sources and amps are settled in, my JBL's are snapping and pumping with aplomb. It could have cost double what I have paid for the same result, and knowing Naim's heritage I will be confidently tapping my toe and banging my head into old age. We are indeed lucky to be part of a select group, and Naim appreciate that.  For Transparency : I must admit I will no doubt feed my addiction with future upgrades...... "One can never have enough Naim!" tm @ copyright.

Steve - if you're fortunate enough a trip to the factory is worth every minute.

It's a very good company. Great products, great support and service and a very easy one to stay with on your audio journey with the upgrade potential fueled by good residuals. Plenty of choice from entry level to stratospheric too.

Just don't get too fixated on the kit and you'll keep enjoying your music

Nice post Steve,  with myself just recently dipping my feet into the Naim waters couldn't agree with you more.

It is indeed a very special brand.

Speaking of which it would be great if there was a factory tour video available.  An updated video to the 1989 production (that I've watched countless times already lol).

It would be fantastic to witness the daily routine on the Naim production floor.

Where are you located Steve? Australia? If in the UK and if at all possible I can whole heartedly endorse TS(F)'s recommendation of a factory visit. It's a must do if you are interested in the company. And if you can manage it.

Where I sit in the office (unromantically facing the ladies and gents toilet doors) there is an old advertisement in a frame on the wall directly in front of me of a bearded J.V. holding a plate full of Bourbon biscuits and tiny Nait amplifiers with the slogan "Mr Vereker makes exceedingly good Naits"...

I *WISH* I could have met him - he died before I joined - but having shared an office for some time with his ex-wife and heard many stories about him then I wish I could have met the guy.

There really is something quite unworldly about working here and that's fantastic...

If you want to do a tour Ken you really won't be disappointed.  It's a tour and much more.

Are visitors allowed to bring their own compact discs, or music files on a USB stick to a factory tour to try out on their Naim setups?

I did post a blog a while back on how they make the Statement amps down in Salisbury, but I'm not sure whether linkage is allowed. Perhaps a mod can advise...?

Just put the search terms in - this seems to be acceptable

Andrew, no links in here unless approved by Naim HQ, however I'm sure that it's fairly simple to find with a quick search...

I recall very fondly the days of the old Naim forum when Julian would chime in on occasion. I never met the man, but have an admiration and respect for what he and Naim had accomplished, and now just as much admiration for the company now, even though things have moved on from the small "cottage" industry it once was. It does make me proud to own some Naim equipment and to be part of this community.

I love the idea of Naim using YouTube as an advertising/information tool. I have watched some great videos on their of factory tours and product displays, it works well. I really mean it though about Naim, in today's world it is rare to see small companies making high quality gear with such passion. Add to that the ability and foresight to think outside the square and design kit that is only replicated by the very best, external power supplies I think off. Even my worshiped UK guitar amplifier brand ........ has outsourced to China when the legend owner died. I had never heard of Naim until January last year, and when looking for a replacement for my old Denon kit I kept noticing 5 star reviews everywhere about Naim. Since they were in my price range I had the opportunity to check it out. As a lover of classic and Synthesis range JBL monitors, I can attest to all that whilst JBL and McIntosh are a fabled pair, JBL and Naim have a boogey factor with a tighter bottom end! It's a match made in heaven! I just would love to try the 500 Series in my room!!!!!

I stand corrected, I see there is a Naim channel on YouTube. I have no idea how I missed it?

Ah right, thanks – as I assumed: well I guess anyone searching my name and 'making a statement' might stumble across something hopefully of interest...
