Your one and onlyJulian Bream record?

I have just watched a documentary of Julian Bream at the BBC. Wonderful playing. If you could only have one Julian Bream CD or LP, which? And why?

If you go to prestoclassical site and search julian bream you are going to get a number of albums with samples to reasearch by yourself and make your own decision.

Boy - just one is really tough - he is a titan in the genre.

This double LP was my first of his as a kid:

This is worth it just for the Bach Fugue in A minor: (which is on the above LP BTW)

And this has a great Villa-Lobos Prelude ! and Albeniz Asturias and Granada:

And there is lots of other excellent stuff on these 2 as well.

Yes that's why I have posed this fiendish Desert Island Disc type question, there are so many recordings available its difficult for a neophyte to know where to start

Thanks

I would start with the Spanish collection; he really stands out in this repertoire. Then once your appetite has been whetted, move on to the Baroque music which is also quite wonderful.

It probably doesn't count as a single disc but on itunes there is 'The Ultimate Collection' for £3.99. This has 92 tracks covering a wide range of Julian Bream's music including some lute songs. Recording quality is not great but the performances and musicianship more than make for any short comings in the sonics - hours of enjoyment.

Dances from Britten's 'Gloriana' (the inevitable Concerto D'Aranjuez' on the B side).
