Naim DAC for me

Posted by: AussieSteve on 05 November 2015

I'd like to own a Naim DAC, like the V1, but without the headphone amp inside. A half sized DAC, with the ability to put a HiCap next to it on the rack to have a 2 piece / 1 rack DAC with the SQ of the full sized DAC & P/S. Is that possible to achieve, or indeed warranted. It would look neat, reduce rack size and be a great use of a proper hifi separate to join the rest of my system,  What do you think Naim?

Unless Naim are like Rolls-Royce and build to specification only for you, it might never happen in a timescale that is worth waiting for.  A couple of retailers mentioned that Naim may now focus on the Mu-so side of things or the all in one concept, plus the network player range.  Perhaps a Super Mu-so to give audiophile level music?  This could all be inaccurate though to reality since its just some opinions.

You might be better off thinking of the here and now and what is immediately available. Many Naim owners are already using Chord DACs as an alternative to Naim DACs.

Our capacity to hear and enjoy music at its best is on a time limit.  Make the most of this while you still can and before time takes its toll (hearing degradation with age, becoming decrepit, becoming dead etc...) get the best of what you can find right now

Full size cases give the engineers more scope to optimise the layout - particularly important when you've got a mixed signal environment and a noisy transformer to deal with too.
