Heads up Gilmour/Floyd fans

Going through my BBC Press Office emails, I notice that BBC Two will be broadcasting next Saturday (9.45pm, 15th November) "Wider Horizons", a 70-minute documentary/interview with Dave Gilmour.

One of the most interesting pieces in the programme for me was the glimpse into his first band Jokers Wild. Both Gilmour's mention of them, and the snippet which was played.

It was clearly an apprenticeship for him and I loved how he talked about 'dissecting' Beach Boys and other songs so as to learn them. And how that helped him understand how songs are constructed. It obviously influenced his singing too.

And the clip was pretty good! I speak from the perspective of having played in covers bands myself.

Respect due even without his later band Floyd. Who were half decent themselves of course.
