Interconnects for Chord Hugo

Posted by: analogmusic on 09 November 2015

Does anyone know if Naim interconnects (either the standard RCA-DIN Lavender cable - OR the Hi line RCA-DIN) fit the Hugo?

Any other recommendations for interconnects for the Hugo and a Naim preamp?

Yes, they do. I use a Hiline RCA-DIN from Hugo to 252 and am very happy with it.

(There were some issues with very early Hugo models, but the current model has a modified case and there are no issues now.)

I use AR Sound Lunar RCA - DIN. The  WBT-110 Cu Nextgen RCA connectors fit in and remove easily so no stress on the Hugo but can be tightened for a great seal once in contact.

Thought it easily matched the Hi-Line and is considerably more robust.

I would have thought that Hugo warranted Super Lumina

I use a Chord Anthem Reference which sounds brilliant although its rca to rca

I (now) use DNM Reson with Eichmann Bullet Plugs. £20 from ebay in a rash 'what if' moment.

Sounds superb.

I use a Chord Company Chorus Reference RCA-DIN. Seems to be a pretty neutral cable and price seems reasonable. Demo'd it in RCA-RCA but when my RCA-DIN came I felt it sounded much better which was a pleasant surprise.

It does in my system and I do use one. Before that the Hiline.

I had a hiline that fit brilliantly, I've also used a flashback premium cable to good effect

Has anyone else found that they can still get a very good performance out of RCA to RCA interconnects?  Since the input source (the Hugo, or 2Qute) is non-Naim it may not be so critical to have to seek out an RCA to DIN interconnect?  This would increase the range of available cable types and wire quality, even though it goes against the doctrine?  I'm using Chord Chameleon Vee 3 of the RCA to RCA type and it works very well.  Nice full bodied sound with good bass, timing and neutrality.  Even if this is tried out instead of the Naim Lavender (I think it is called) which comes with a Naim DAC, to connect this DAC to a Nait XS.

phono to phono is fine, but the phono to DIN Hiline works an absolute treat between my Hugo and 252.. One less physical ground contact must help here as well.

The DNM Reson I use is RCA to RCA. It's a little more transparent than the RCA-DIN HiLine ime.

G - I was into the DNM Reson for a while - and that was Phono to DIN - its very good indeed between the Hugo and Naim, but I came back to the Hiline - there is something about the Hiline that just does something right for me. The DNM lead sounds slightly curtailed in the frequency extremes and to my ears perhaps not quite as resolving and insightful.

I just bagged a s/h Tellurium Q Black for a weekend experiment. I use the speaker cable and am very impressed with it so thought I'd give the IC a whirl.

It will have to be good to trump the DNM...but I fancy an experiment.

Looking forward to your thoughts Graeme. I assume the TQ is a RCA-RCA?

Yes it is - as the Hugo out is RCA I don't get too uptight about the Din in - and the resale is much easier.

Will post any significant findings.

Be interested in your findings Graeme, as I've wondered if I would get better synergy if I had one on my Hugo to match the speaker cables instead of the Chord Anthem Reference I have, could always use the latter on my Tuner if need be

Dear All ,

I' m using a TQ Black Diamond RCA-RCA between Hugo and SN2 with great results . I had been using a standard TQ Black but after the unveiling of the SL cables I became curious about how much was left in the Hugo . I tried about half a dozen other cables from the usual suspects and settled on the Diamond after being offered a very good deal to go alongside its performance . I have had the TQ Black speaker cable for over 2 years and love them  . The only problem with the Diamond  RCA cable is the screw caps don't quite fit the Hugo so I'm using the ones off the Black which I haven't got round to selling yet , I have spoken to Geoff at TQ who informed me the caps are transferable and can even be used without as long as the cables aren't touching .

Both TQ cables are very good , with hindsight I could have lived with the Black but have no regrets in shelling out for the Diamond .

I've had the TQB RCA-RCA from Hugo to SN2 in since yesterday.  Previously I've used Chord Anthem 2 RCA-Din, HiLine RCA-Din and, most recently DNM RCA-RCA Eichmann plugs. The latter being only £20 on the bay and my cable of choice...until now.

The TQB presents music in a superbly layered, detailed and natural way. Timbres have an extra ounce of differentiation and thus realism. 'S' vocal sounds are less simplistic and 'digital' sounding, again more layered and complex. Transparency the key here.

Listening to 'Riders on the Storm' and the whispered vocal is clearly distinct yet well integrated with the main voice. The performance as a whole drives along nicely too, all parts cohering yet distinctly legible in their own right.

Whether it's particular synergy with the TQB speaker cable (which I also use) or simply excellent in it's own right I can't say.

For me it's a keeper and worth an audition if you have the speaker cable and are in the market for a 'matching' sonic signature.

Really pleased with your findings Graeme , we have have similar systems (and watches ) so its great to hear you are having similar results and yes "Riders on the Storm" sounds fantastic . TQ and Naim certainly have plenty of synergy .
