Headphones (Wireless)

Sorry Guys (and Girls) I'm back!

Any recommendations for wireless headphones that will work well with a N272 & 250DR combination?

Know what you are doing the quality of wireless headphones can't achieve the level of wired headphones. Anyhow good alternatives are the Senheiser RS220 discontinued but still to be bought and new Senheiser RS195 both are in house only alternatives.

Other alternatives which also can be used with your phone but most probably you would need an additional radio on your hifi Senheiser Momentum, Bose Soundlink, B&O H8.

I will never change to wireless, and anyhow don't listen via headphones in a home context.

I know that I can't get the same quality but these would be for occasional use, I'd still like to do the best I can (without going silly!).

My wife is very happy with her B&W P5 Wireless.

She normally uses a set of custom Shure IEMs when out and about but around the office or house likes the freedom of wireless. Being used to IEMs she also wanted something that was not too heavy while still being built with nice materials. I've used them a few times and for a Bluetooth headphone I think they sound pretty reasonable and isolate a surprising amount of sound for an on ear design.

I thought that I could only use RF Wireless with this combo and not bluetooth - am I wrong (again)?

Sorry Steve, my bad. I assumed the 272 could send and receive Bluetooth. Unless you hook up a Bluetooth transmitter something like the P5 won't work.

This is where I'm out of my depth - The 272 has Bluetooth but I thought that was an input not an output but I may be wrong here.

Is there any difference in sound quality between RF wireless and Bluetooth wireless?

I assume - but would need to be cofirmed by reading the manual that the bluetooth is only for incoming (Airplay), but perhaps it also works the other way around. Bluetooth I think has a bigger issue with compression of the signal then the RS - so without knowing 100% sure I assume the RS will lead to a better signal. While of course the bluetooth based devices are more versitile.

As far as I know, Bluetooth is only used for streaming into the 272 - it is not possible to connect headphones this way.

You would need something connected to the headphones output on the 272 to stream to the headphones - preferable RF than bluetooth.

FWIW I use a set of Grado RS2s with a grado extension lead - they sound fantastic (but not as convenient as being wireless).

I've never been a big fan of Bluetooth. Batteries to charge up, limited sound quality, limited range before you lose the connection. If I wanted to use headphones at home, I'd stick with my Shure IEMs and stick my Sony Walkman in my pocket. This sounds awesome, and it can play from my Unitiserve over WiFi as well as from its own storage.

I tried some Sennheiser 195's when they were on discount. Wonderful feeling to be untethered while watching movies, but they don't hold a candle to my HD 700's for music replay (via DAC V1). Sent the 195's back, but if I ever see a steal of a deal on some might reconsider as the convenience is pretty nice.
