can't play m4a files.

I installed SyncStream app as an UPnP server in my iPhone.
It works very well with mp3 files for my uniticute 2 but m4a.
I wonder why???
Is there any restriction streaming m4a files by Apple?
I see no one has replied to this. I did some googling and it looks as if the UQ2 plays m4a files ok from some upnp servers but not others. Presumably the app you are using is one of the latter. I'm afraid I have no idea what to suggest, except that if you could change the format of the m4a files to something else like FLAC for example, you might have more luck. You could try that with one album (perhaps by re-ripping it) and see if it helps or not before trying to do the rest.

Hi, m4a files are MPEG4 container files and contain a variety of codecs. In the Apple world, and the Naim world I believe, m4a containers are used to wrap AAC and lossless ALAC files. Both of these supported by Naim, but I think ALAC only upto 96/24.
So what is being sent by your UPnP player in the m4a files?
if not AAC or ALAC I don't think Naim will be able to play it.
Which UPnP media player are you using? It might be the UPnP media player has some sort of error.

I transcoded them to FLAC and they worked fine. And then I got a NAS which could transcode to wav on the fly, and naturally both the ALAC and FLAC versions work ok, since the streamer sees both of them as wav.
Whatever is hiding behind the m4a tag, transcoding the files to a known acceptable format should make the Qute able to play them.

Qute won't play alac files over 96 kHz
Many thank to everyone who posted replay.
There is no problem to play every files in USB port but m4a files with steamer named SyncStream.
So I think the m4a problem is related to streamer dependency as like David told me.
Another possible reason is Apple Fairplay policy. I just guess. I'm not sure.
All of a sudden I have the same problem. My Synology media server is set to transcode. It worked flawlessly, and suddenly it fails. The Naim app tells me 'not a music track' for all the m4a files.
It is most logical the problem is on the Synology side. I will try to solve it and report back if I found a solution.
It is indeed the media server of Synology. I have de-selected the transcoding in the media server. The media server probably stops and starts in the background. Then I tried to play a track from the Naim app that previously failed to run. It worked.
I selected the transcoding once more, replayed the same track: it works.
In the update history of the NAS it said the media server was updated on 26-11-2015. That was probably the moment things failed, I was on holiday and haven't played music since.
