Synology Users

Posted by: Mr Underhill on 21 November 2015

I have issues from within my network connecting to my webmail account other than via https, i.e. I can connect using a web browser but not via an email client.

This means that until recently I did not make use of the Synology NAS Notification services. Then I noticed that Synology allows you to route your NAS email messages via their email server, 'Push Service' ....which works.

Just in case anyone else has missed this nice bit of functionality ........

Keyed by my getting an email letting me know that there is a DSM update available. I will now sit back for a few weeks and monitor some fora in case there are issues before applying it!

Somewhat confused.

Webmail?

I install all Synology update to both of my boxes automatically.

I find this a useful feature, but I caught it out for the last update (he says with a smirk),   I had found the update when I was in the webpage & had it loaded before I had (found) the e-mail.

Also if you use the Synology UPnP Media Server,   it too had an update last week - just in case anyone missed it.

I also get e-mails when we have a power failure;  during the high winds this week I was outside rescuing my recycle bins & my outside light flashed off & on.

When I got back inside I opened the iPad to see two new e-mails had arrived from Synology to tell me my UPS had gone to battery power at 8:12 & the other mail said it had gone back to mains power at 8:12.

Mrs-Mike had not noticed anything, the TV did not flicker & the same with the room lighting which is all LED (LED lights have a few milli-secs delay)  so the e-mail told us something we would not have been aware of.  Then looking at the neighbours, they were all in darkness - the road had lost 2 phases.

Email notification stories.

1. About this time last year our rented apartment was having new bathrooms fitted which meant that they were switching the power off and on everyday. We went away for a long weekend to come back on Sunday with no power. It simply had been left off from Thursday and the freezer contents were ruined. After some argument about whether this even happened I produced a list of the Synology notifications. Money was then forthcoming.

2. We had a break in at our holiday home. They somehow tripped the circuit for the NAS which therefore triggered an email that the police used as the time of incident. (reminds me that I have been intending to get a camera installed).
