Need help with ND5 XS

Posted by: mike schmidt on 21 November 2015

I come from the Cyrus family and my transport quit working and at this point I don't think Im going to replace it with a cd player or transport of any kind.  Iam looking at the cyrus Stream X signature or NDS5XS and leaning that way.  My pre amp has the upgraded dac but from what I understand I can only use the rca's out (then I'm using the Naim dac) or spdif to rca into my input digital side of the pre correct.

Can i use a regular back up hard drive that I can wirelessly sync from my iMac to my home router which would be right beside my stereo system anyhow.  How do you sync music stored on a desk top computer to a nas or hard drive.

Lastly for sound quality wise how would this fare against the Cd5XS or a dedicated transport.

+1 -----  but to repeat my previous post ----- I would add that as this is a new venture it would be a shame to not get it right from the start & all wired is the best by far.

this does seem easy to do as i could just drop my itunes onto the mac mini and let it sync wirelessly.  My home system is really stable and fast so that is not a worry.  This is somthing im looking at for one it would be cheaper 2nd it looks to be simple.  from the mac mini is it optical out?

The MM should sit on the network. Connect via Ethernet cable or wireless. It'll need to be running UPNP software such as Asset (which is recommended by many).

If you want an optical connection then streaming isn't the answer - you'd do better with a dedicated DAC such as a V1 or Hugo.
