252/250 has landed
Posted by: Erich on 21 November 2015
Yesterday my Naim Dealer came to my place to install 252/250 kit, replacing 202/200.
First of all I would like to thank you very much for the honest comments/advice provided. Specially Foot Tapper, Kuma, Rjstaines, Simon in S, HH and Huge. Some of you know that where I live is not feasible to audition this type of devices coz dealers have a very limited stock in demo.
After a few months my kit is almost completely a new one:
Lp12 (Akurate)
Superline / Hicap
CDX2
V1 / Hugo
252/250
2023's
Headline/Napsc DD800's
I'm so happy I have been listening to music the whole day.
Again TYVM.
Regards.
Erich
Beautiful!
Another very happy 252 owner here. It's a peach of a preamp that just draws us into the music.
I note that you have the Hugo. Have you tried it fronted by the CDX2?
What is that Linn box on the 3rd shelf?
Enjoy rediscovering your music, the journey has just begun.
Jan
Jan,
I haven't tried the Hugo fronted by the CDX2, I have been so happy with the CDX2 since it arrived that I have been just playing CD's as it is. Time will come to try. Thanks for the idea, I had not even thought about it.
the Linn box is a Lingo.
Regards.
Erich
Congratulations you made a significant step up in the hifi heaven....
Enrich great stuff...if you are only as half delighted as I am with my 252/250 you will be very happy indeed.
BTW leave the CDX2 or at least have the option to input the CDX2 natively into the 252.. For some discs it is just so hard to beat the CDX2 sound In terms of enjoyment.. Early Bob Dylan albums is a case in point..
Congratulations Enrich, it's always gratifying when things fall into place, especially given your remoteness geographically.
After the trials and tribulations of having to build the LP12 yourself you are obviously pleased with the result. Did your Superline come with a Z-Airplug? If not this would be a very cost effective upgrade to the vinyl side of your system. They aren't expensive and can easily be posted. The best ones are the cryo-treated plugs from AV Options in the US but Naim do a standard version.
Interesting that you enjoy the CDX2, I never could and had to sell mine as I found it too bright. I only got back into digital replay when I bought a Hugo, which I run off a MacMini system. This brought a much more analogue feel to the music. If your CDX2 has a digital out it would be worth trying the Hugo with it.
Enjoy.
Steve
Congratulations Erich. Am currently auditioning a 252/SCDR/250DR to replace my SN2/HCDR (source is NDS/PS555DR) and they are due back with dealer on Wednesday. Could be an early Christmas pressie to myself.
Sorry Enrich, I just need to side line to Steve J.
Steve, intrigued by you saying the CDX2 is bright.. I find it the other way.. But in a likeable way. It's a warm and bouncy sound.. yes not ultra layered and detailed like the Hugo, but I like it. I use a Fraim and a Hiline and no additional CDX2 PSU into my 252. I do remember trying my CDx2 with a my old 555PS and that did not sound right, a bit etched.. and that was possibly bright. Listening to the X2 now, and its sounding fab, with nice room filling bass, drive and punch.(my Dec Mojo CD).My CDX2 is the original version... perhaps the later versions sounded different.. I don't know.

it also depends on speakers used, some are more tonally neutral than others.
my dealer once demonstrated this to me, I took my B&W to his showroom and he then on the same exact system (NDS/555/252/250.2) switched to revel speakers, and well, the B&W did appear quite a bit brighter
I now have Dynaudio, and miss the B&W sometimes, but the dynaudio are very neutral, to the extent (whether this is good or not, can't say) that it has the same voicing while watching movies as the best sound systems in the cinemas I go to.
I'm thinking of doing the upgrade next year...

I am, I think I'll let Christmas pass first, and then I'll hopefully arrange a home demo.. and if its an obvious advancement in musical enjoyment I will no doubt place an order...

Simon, the CDX2 just arrived like 1 month ago and is going stay. You are complete right, some replays with it are unbeatable. Also I don't have the patience to rip all cd's I have plus new arrivals.
Up to now I'm very happy and think I will enjoy the kit as you do.

Simon, I am very very happy with the CDX2, which is very good, indeed, I don't know if I could afford going into the next step (a 500 kit).
In a good interpretation of the word brighter, it is, in comparison with my former CDP that had valves.
Regards.

Hi Erich congrats. which 250 did you get?
AM,
TYVM.
It's new (252, 250 and SC all new).
I imagine have all the lights and whistles. The boxes have SN's > 396000 and they stipulate DR for the SC and 250.
Regards.

MDS,
TYVM, not so bad not so good, but worked hard.
My real Xmas present will be to visit my son and 2 grandchildren (and the enemy of course), who live in Switzerland for Christmas and NY.
Regards.

Yes, Erich. No Hi-Fi or money can compete with that. Have a great time.

Yes, I'm really hoping Santa doesn't have me on his "naughty" list!
You, better than anybody, know if you have the merits for the naughty or for the other.
Should I put a candle to the Virgin to intercede for you just in case?
Regards.
Erich
Allante93,
TYVM, I will do it immediately.

Congratulations Erich,
I wish you many more hours of enjoyable listening!
