Curious if anyone has any feedback about these.  Here are some photos:

Your pics aren't showing Brad. Best to contact Naim with the serial numbers for the infornation you need.

Brad, the pics are not publicly accessible.  As Steve says, if UK units then best contact Naim HQ with the serial numbers and ask them for about the history.  If overseas then contact your local distributor.

Thanks guys, I am in the US, and I think non-official updates are more common here - moved images to flickr.  Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated.  My 110 was clearly recapped by Chris West, I am reaching out to him about details, and will also send him serial numbers for the 32.5 and HiCap.

I have to say I have a whole new appreciation for Naim seeing the interiors.  Absolutely immaculately, beautifully built.  Never thought I'd say that about electronics.

Yes they have been re-capped, but the main smoothing caps in the Hi-Cap are certainly the wrong type. Also some of the caps in the pre-amp look wrong too...

I have never seen these blue caps in any Hicap pictures with genuine Naim approved capacitors

Posted on: 29 November 2015 by Brad L

The big blue caps are labelled "Sprague".

Do those initials on the cards stand out to anyone?  Are those the original Naim QC folks?

Whichever Naim employee populates the PCB then signs that board with their initials.

Hi Brad,

That last picture of your NAP110 reminds me of the first meeting I had with JV in Salt Lane.

Up till then I had had a Sansui Tuner amp that was packed full of electronic components followed by a Rogers Panthera integrated amp, again packed full of electronics.

I was in the process of buying a NAC12/Snaps/NAP160 and mentioned that I had once had a dream about my Sansui in which I opened up the case to find...................a single transistor on the back of the volume control and nothing else bar the input/output sockets ! I had woken up in a cold sweat !!

Julian smiled and opened up the case of the Nap160 and the cold sweat re-appeared instantly

I know what you mean...that's the HiCap btw...

Brad- Chris will sort it all out for you-no worries.

Getting all boxes back to Naim spec would be recommended. That combo will make a very nice foundation for a  cool vinyl set-up!

Good luck,

Mark

If the pre amp hadn't been recapped all the electrolytic caps would be maroon. The  phono board  electrolytics haven't been changed, it's common for the the feedback caps on these boards not to changed. On newer equipment, Naim replaced the maroons with Samwha SG 47uf/85c (the blue and white ones, used in most Naim equipment). The logo on the black electrolytics in your pre-amp indicates they are Samwha 47uf/105c The series is not shown on your photos.

The tantalum caps look identical to the type now used by Naim. The fact ALL the tants have been replaced indicates the person who did it, knows what they're doing.

How does it sound.

The whole setup sounds awesome, but honestly I don't have much to compare it to, other than a friend with a Supernait and better LP12 (I think my setup sounds a lot better actually).  I run a really well sorted LP12 with Cirkus and Hercules with a Grace 707 and Ortofon 2M Blue.  I just got the itch to see if I could make it a bit better, and I honestly had never had the lids off to see what I have.  It could well be that it's pretty much perfect as is.  The HiCap certainly makes a big difference in its current state.
