No Sound from NAC202 and NAP200, am I wired wrong?

Posted by: After_Shock on 01 December 2015

Firstly hello all, this is my first post on the forum and also my first foray into the world of Naim.

Having recently got a NAC202 with the NAP200 amp and the external NAPSC I wired it all up as per the pics, sorry they aren't great but we all know what its like getting behind equipment!

Connected a Marantz CD player and the speakers, all fires up fine get the pop sound from both speakers on powering the amp up, but nothing. No sound at all. Am I missing something obvious?

Nac is set to CD, tried the volume up and down, mute is off, but nothing.

Re-connected the CD player to my Marantz amp which is still in place and the speakers back to the same and all works fine, not sure what I am missing.

Really appreciate any replies or pointers in case I have things wired up wrong?

The 202's inputs can be configured for RCA or DIN. My guess is that yours is set for DIN at the moment. Please see manual for how to change configuration. Or, possibly quicker, someone here will be able to help...

Welcome btw!

Chris

Edit: oh, and in a perfect world, 202 and 200 would each have a shelf of their own. But we know it's not a perfect world.

5 pin Link Plug appears to be missing on the Upgrade socket.

Press and hold the prog key on the remote (in preamplifier mode). The front panel volume control will flash. Press 1 to select or de-select RCA phono socket for CD, or 6 for AUX2. The appropriate button will flash three times on selection of RCA. Press and hold prog key until vol stops flashing to exit programme mode.

It is in, sorry bad pics! Set everything up the other day to find nothing would work and it was missing so was a trip back to the dealer!

Thanks for the welcome.

They will be on individual shelves when properly installed, I like to get everything set up and working before fully installing in a rack/cabinet which is very difficult to access from behind, any hiccups are easier to iron out when easier to access!

Next silly question of the day!

Pre amp is on, power amp is on and the pre amp is currently on the CD selection on the front panel, nothing else is lit or flashing etc.

How do I put it in pre-amp mode? Holding the prog button is not doing anything in its current setting. Cant seem to see anything in the instructions.

Thanks

Is it in pre-amp mode?  Press the PRE button on the Narcom remote before you carry out Nick's instructions.

Cool. How does it sound?

Free tip (un-needed unless you are new to Naim) : Don't turn it off unless you are going on holiday or it looks like there might be a massive thunderstorm.

Instant impressions vastly better than the Marantz, however as its now 1.20am where I live it will have to wait till tomorrow for an in depth audition.

Thanks on the tip, dealer had suggested to leave them on as they prefer to be warm. Fortunately thunder storms are non existent or incredibly rare here so will be holidays only I will power down on!
