Could be the next hot topic without qualifying what constitutes a "bug" versus a "gripe".

Good point joerand,   last evening there was a whole heap of complains (gripes) about the new format in a few threads in HiFi Corner & Padded Cell.

I really hope Naim take some of them on board as a bug,  they are indicating a lot of ease of use & operating difficulties with the font, spacing & other items that contribute to such a low word count on each screen view.

Bug - The text colour selecter box needs to be looked at - it does not have all the basic primary colours.

Bug - No way to delete "Alerts" or prevent the e-mails recieved when someone "likes" your topic,

Mike,

make sure you check (or uncheck) your notification settings in your profile control panel.  There are plenty of options in there as to what you can set to notify by e-mail or not.

It seems that if you click on your alerts in the header bar, it shows them to you and they then go away.

Posted on: 03 December 2015 by Mike-B

No so Richard,  nothing does any of your suggestions that I can find.

You can stop the notifications under your profile options

Posted on: 03 December 2015 by Mike-B

OK  thanks HH  ........  I just found it  ......

Its in Your Profile in the "Notification Settings" tab

Can't find a way to zap the recieved Alerts,  maybe they will disappear.

When logging in as I enter my e-mail address a red text message " invalid value "appears.

Doesn't stop entries, but a bit disconcerting.

Padded Cell forum not easily visible (no tab).

Characters faint (grey) and large.

Wasted page space.

More help info on posting needed. Wasn't clear what the take action button was. Plucked up courage to press. Thought it might be an complaint button.

On an iPad, I can only switch between rooms (like audio streaming or hifi corner) by selecting Naim users, wait while the list of rooms appears and then select the new room.  In the old version, there was a button that took me straight there at one press.

David, check the top left hand corner.  On the iPhone there are three lines, click on that and a drop down menu appears with all the rooms on it, plus some other options.  I assume the iPad is simialr. but as I don't have one handy here I can't see for myself at the moment.

Richard

Thanks yes that works. Maybe the bug is that it isn't that obvious!

best

David

Great, thanks for letting me know David.  We're all just getting used to the new....

Not bugs, but three annoyances so far:

1) No choice for Padded Cell in the three lines menu.

2) Topics with unread posts are no longer easily identified. They used to be in bold font.

3) Recent posts listed in "Comments" on right hand side used to have small avatars.

Suggestions for improving ergonomics:

  1. Increase the font size of the "tree" menu (second line from top);
  2. Decrease the font size of the topic title;
  3. Move the "Like this topic", "Follow this topic" and the social media icons up and over to the right of the (reduced font) topic title (in other words, align topic title and all icons on a single line);
  4. Reduce line spacing in text;
  5. Remove gray background and offset of every second post (this is confusing as every second reply looks like a quoted post);
  6. Add Padded Cell to top menu.

Thank you

Jan

A quick mockup to illustrate the suggestions.

Thanks Jan-Erik.  I particularly like the avatar for the Padded Cell...

Posted on: 03 December 2015 by Jan-Erik Nordoen

... all it's missing is the Naim logo on the lab coats.

For me at this point bugs are not a major concern. The whole layout is, at least in my browser, pretty unusable. Browsing through the topics is a pain. Vertical scrolling is a pain. There is an enormous waste of resources and space, in particular vertical space. Concrete suggestions for improving are:

1) reduce the vertical whitespace below the "Like Reply" and "Take Action" buttons

2) reduce the vertical linespace, e.g. between this line and the one right above

3) what is the purpose of the horizontal line separator which shows up every two posts? Why every two?

4) avoid inflationary usage of avatars.

5) reduce the vertical size of the main Naim header on the top of the thread: in my browser it eats up about 1/3 of the whole vertical space!

6) reduce the size of the thread title: together with the "Like this topic" and "Follow this topic" buttons it eats up about 1/3 of the whole vertical space in my browser!

7) move all the "share" thingy and social media buttons out of the way: they lead to an enormous waste of vertical space!

8) I have been following this forum for about 2 years meanwhile and it appears that (almost) none uses the "Likes" button. Get it out of the way and embed it into the "take action" menu.

Possibly as a consequence of the insane waste of resources and of a disturbing amount of social media and content related frills, the responsiveness of the new forum is very low and vertical scrolling is a real pain. Please, move back to a sobre, simple and straightforward layout and to a parsimonious usage of whitespace and resources.

I would like to support some revisions on the lines of Jan-Erik's suggestions as the graphic design of the new version leaves much to be desired. I don't think this is just a matter of getting used to something different; good online graphic design should present material in a way that makes assimilation of information and navigation intuitive. Jan-Erik's comments show that the new design fails to make clear neither the hierarchies in the overall structure of the forums nor the relationship between the posts. Other elements of the online page could also be more effectively presented.

I think folks complain too much - nonetheless I still can't upload photos!!

Posted on: 03 December 2015 by hungryhalibut

Never mind!

Pah - a plan so cunning you could pin a tail on it and call it a weasel!!!

I wonder why you have a green dot and I don't. Is a RAG status being applied to Forum members?

Posted on: 03 December 2015 by Jan-Erik Nordoen

A green dot indicates that you are online...

Posted on: 03 December 2015 by hungryhalibut

But if I'm posting, how can I not be online?
