DAC firmware: From 4.10.6 to 4.11.8: The upgrading itself
Posted by: nbpf on 03 December 2015
The thread is meant to address questions directly related with the procedure for upgrading the DAC firmware from 4.10.6 to 4.11.8. The focus is on the upgrading itself, not on its impact on sound quality, DSD capabilities, etc. In particular, I would like to collect some feedback on the follwing questions:
1) Are there any limitations -- for instance on supported data formats, USB drives, file name lenghts -- in 4.11.8 which were not already present in 4.10.6?
2) Can the upgrade be done from the front USB port?
3) Is it possible to (re)install 4.10.6 from 4.11.8?
4) The correct light combination are 00100-01010-00110 and 00100-01011-01000 for 4.10.6 and 4.11.8, respectively, right?
5) The Naim firmware upgrade instructions open up with the remark: "Anyone performing an update to Naim Audio electrical equipment should first ensure it is disconnected from the mains power source by removing the IEC power lead - switching off at the rear panel or mains switch is not sufficient." I guess this remark is irrelevant in the context of the firmware upgrade, am I right?
As many of us are about to upgrade or have already done so, this thread is meant to become a short reference. For most of us, it will become obsolete very soon but hopefully provide some reference for those who will (have to) update later. Thanks for sharing, nbpf
