phono stage

Hi all

I have now changed my vinyl replay system,it nows consists of -Michell gyrodec, with QC power supply, roksan tabriz tonearm and audio-technica ART 1 moving coil cartridge, through to leema elements phono stage. My amps are,nac 82pots 8,nap 180 and 2 hi-caps,with passive linn kabers ( just upgraded the bass/midrange units to the excellent Seas M15CH002).My question is (after speaking to lee taylor of leema acoustics) he confirmed that one of my hi-caps powering the phonostage would greatly improve performance of my turntable, but would it lower performance with single hi-cap powering my 82 pre-amp?

I once tried a second Hicap on an 82, and found it made very little difference - in fact it was a bit of a waste of time. I wasn't aware that a Hicap could drive a Leema phono stage - have you checked with Naim as well? If it can, and safely, then why not just try it?

One other thought - you really need a 250 for those Kabers - the 180 is not powerful enough to take complete control and kick them into life.

I guess it's one of those things you will need to try out.  I take it Leema are happy for you to use a Hicap on their phono stage? Do they supply the correct cable for this? Bear in mind that the Hicap is a dual rail  24V supply and is not mean't to be used on any product other than Naim's own.

Hi Richard,Yes...Leema are very intrigued, after I informed them I fried a firestone audio korora phonostage, which was 24 volt dc,but only 500ma current. And please correct me if I am wrong current delivery from a hi-cap is rated at 3 amps, leema confirmed the elements phono would be fine, and lee taylor even asked me to ring him back with any noticeable improvements (if any) what are your thoughts on this?

Martin, I'm no engineer or technician so probably best confer with Naim.  Send a mail to Steve Hopkins at the factory - info@naimaudio.com.
