After some speaker suggestions now

Posted by: Mark Arnold on 04 December 2015

Hi ive now got rid of the nd5xs as i thought to myself eventually (next year hopefully) i will get a 282 and maybe a 250 and that a NDX would be a better pairing and also space is at a premium in my BDI unit (just ordered another shelf) so cannot add PS as of yet so as it stands its nac 202 napsc nap 200 and NDX with naim speaker cable to MA RS8 speakers,

Ive heard the PMC 23's using a nac 202 but had a 200DR and an NDX and the sound is very good to my ears anyway this was at a dealer  can i have some speaker recommendations that you would try as i dont know what to look for. Im looking at the secondhand market to get better bang for buck and the speakers need to be a nice looking pair if you get my drift.

Cheers guys

Mark,

I have a NDX,XPS2,282,250DR,2 x HiCapDR,and use Naim Allaes to great effect, they are good value second hand and not too ugly as well.

Kudos C20's on the end of an NDX 282/HicapDR/250DR is a great combination, it's what I use!  We tend to recommend what we use.

I used them with a NAP 200 as well and this was OK but the 250DR really shows what the C20's can do.

I've heard the PMC's and they are also very nice.  Both speakers are quite easy to place having transmission line (PMC) or a downward firing port (Kudos).

If you like the PMC-sound, with the combination you aspire also have a listen to 20.26, Fact 8 and/or 12.

The twenty.23 would be my choice at that sort of price range. Richard's Kudos are very nice too, as are the Naim SL2 which I use but are virtually impossible to find.

Hi Mark,

As you will know speakers are very room dependant and a very personal choice.Make a short list on recomendation by all means but you really must try them in your listening room.

I fell in love with a pair of kudos speakers in my dealers dem room and thought I found the speaker of my dreams.I brought them home to try and they just didn't work.

I had 282/250.2 with my Martin Logan ESLs. I may be very partisan about panels, but I really recommend listening to some (quads, magnepans, martin logans...)

Before that I used Harbeth P3ESRs, which have a lovely midrange but, in the end (for me) pale in comparison as box speakers compared with panels.

Audition lots of speakers (then buy panels)...

Think I'm going to ask my dealer if I can home demo the PMC 23 in my lounge and go from there, I was also looking at Focals but having only heard a expensive pair £9000 worth at the dealers I really don't know

As I've gone up to the NDX I've noticed a slightly nicer complete sound, less edgey or harsh so I'm pleased with my decision.

I have also installed asset on my laptop and DBpoweramped some cd's in Flac and then transcoding to WAV to the NDX and I'm pleased with how this all works so going to keep ripping then put it all on a Qnap hopefully if the misses lets me as I've spent nearly 4K so far and I'm supposed to be saving for Vegas for Xmas lol
