squeaking of digital output/input Marantz UD7007 --> 272/250DR

Not sure if this is the place to put this post. However I have an odd thing going on. I am using the digital out (coax) of my Marantz UD7007 when playing CD's and connected it to the digital input 2 of my 272. When playing cd's I hear a constant squeaking (is that a correct word?) through the music as if I am playing a bad vinyl album. I tried another digital input of the 272, no change. Changed coax cable, no change. Marantz has no earth, it is double shielded. What could be the problem? Faulty digital out on the Marantz? Or something wrong with 272? I also have an optical cable connected to the 272 coming from an airport express, no issues.

Any help is appreciated. thx.

Rik

To test if there's an issue with one of the components you need a third component that supports S/Pdif.  You could try connecting your television or PVR or DVD/BlueRay player to the 272.  If the sound is OK with that, then the problem is the Maranz, otherwise it's probably a fault in the 272.

OK, first of all, I assume the Marantz is set to output PCM via its digital coax output.

Is the Marantz connected to a TV + tuner/sat/cable box?  What happens if these are disconnected from the Marantz - i.e. it's only connected to the NAC-N272.

It does sound like what happens when a digital stream gets too noisy and you start to get drop outs and weird artefacts.
