cable vs satellite

I've had Direct TV thru my ATT DSL line for  years, the last year I"ve had lots of problems downloading Netflix movies and ATT sends out small fliers and says they're readjusting their speeds and "can't guarantee" the speeds. I've called them 6 times but "I'm too far from the box" yet a friend 4 blocks away has thier fastest optical cable.

I just had Time Warner install cable and a stronger wifi to the TV with a DVR box and my computer at other end of apartment will catch it's signal. It is supposedly 10 times faster than DSL.  I only was able to watch about an hour and figured out how to get my favorite channels listed and to record a few things I miss late at night. Then had to race down to my folks.  It'll be nice to have HiDef now with my Samsung.  I was noticing edges cut off from programs.

ATT is trying to spend billions to buy out their competitor but not willing to upgrade their equipment in a nice area in LA so they loose out. I have 3 packages but once the price increases I'll reduce and focus on Netflix.

Now the daunting task of mastering the remote to get the most out of it.  Of curse this all comes at teh expense of TT time and other music, reading and current movies.

Alas,  it was installed Saturday AM, long process because I didn't use their Wifi box which they were going to rent me $5/mo. Being an old building he came in thru front of apartment and set it up for TV DVR and wifi to my computer 30 feet away. Seems to work alright, I put on a side of JD Souther on turntable, he'd never really seen one, poor guy thought it'd be full of ticks and pops. Said it sounded really nice,  Didn't realize the real quality behine the big stack of boxes and Fraim....

He showed me how to use the remote and get my fave channels, most HD now. 20 minutes watching gymnastics and I had to shut down and get to my folks. It's now Monday and I want to get home, and watch my TV, and have a whiskey, and sleep in my own bed.

I'll keep my own thread going.  I have ended up being very unhealthy for the last month.  Some things were awkward with the new cable setup.  One friend who was IT at Nestle' here came by with a lasagna to bake and sat down with the remote and made all the things happen and gave me lessons with laughs and smart comments,  then took off leaving  half  Pino Grigio bottle.

Wow, how do you repay a friend like that?  I now have half the lasagna frozen so I can try something else. I can stream HD video in a flash and get 100% quality.

HD is a great step up from SD. 3D? Nah, you can keep that and i really don't see it taking off for films but can see an appeal for gaming where you naturally sit closer to the screen.

Glad your happy with your new kit and hope things improve on the health front.

Cheers,

Rack.

My only problem now after so many weeks is how to view what's on the DVR being recorded.  I think I need to ask Tom over again or call the friendly cable people.

The worser news is I now have to learn how to blood test myself for Diabeties.  I had one 30 minute demonstration, then they sent me off with a whole kit to try to figure out myself. HA,  I'm going out to a friend's for lunch and have him show me real time and get me to do it several times myself.  Life is never easy.
