Convert FLAC to Itunes?

Posted by: Steven Shaw on 15 May 2011

I have purchased several albums from the Naim store (and a few from the Scottish competition). They play great on my unitiqute, but i would like to convert them so I can play them on my ipod.

Ideally I would like to convert them to aac since sound quality isn't of the upmost concern, but I suppose wav would be ok since I only have a few albums and my ipod currenty has plenty of space left.

I would welcome suggestions on which software would do this. I have a mac and a pc, and free is the best price, but I suppose I would be willing to pay a small amount.

XLD for Mac will do the trick.

I like Audacity, (I like to amplify some songs w/o clipping) just import then export in any format you desire. Let's you edit or do fades on the way to conversion. Free. Opensource.

Use Trader's Little Helper to convert from FLAC to mp3, and import into iTunes

HI Steven -

I am using MAX to convert FLAC to ALAC, and it works very well for me!

Fidelia is great. US$19.00.

It's a very good playback codec and file conversion is a cinch too. The converted files are placed in the same folder as the original files.

+1 - seems bullet proof too; I used to use XLD for everything, but latest version seems a bit unstable and Max just rocks on ... both programs can automatically put albums directly in to your iTunes library with cover art. I've switched back and forth between the two and currently using Max. I use AIFF rather than ALAC, mainly because I thought it better to keep things uncompressed. but please don't ask why.

All the best, Guy
