uServe setup
Posted by: Aron on 23 May 2011
Just got the uServe back home and I need some help to set it up. Right now I have only managed to hook the uServe to a ethernet cable to my router, I'm using a macbook pro... errr..... so what to do from now, step by step if you can.
Try to type in the http://NSSRV"xxxx" (last 4 digits of my MAC address) into the browser but nothing.
Can your dealer not help you out?
I take it you aren't putting the " " around the last 4 digits, and are taking these from the label on the back of the Unitserve?
I recall to have read something similar in the HDX manual. IMHO this is a mistake. Instead of this, you need to type the IP address the router gave to the uServe. Something like: http://192.167.1.71/
Can you get this via the front panel diplay?

Michel

I took the set thinking it should be easy... now it's late and maybe I will call them tomorrow.

" " not included.

Mistake? I was thinking I was missing some steps.
This is silly - attaching a UPnP media server with a decent implementation of samba enabled should simply plug in - boot and show up. Unless of course there is additional magic involved .....

Try turning everything off, including the router. Connect up the Unitiserve. Switch the router back on. Wait for it to re-establish your network, then turn everything else back on.
Try the http://nssrv...... again.
Just log onto your router and see what active IPs are around and try logging into each one until you hit the jackpot.
You really want to be setting the IP of it though as really a server in any guise should not be on DHCP
It work after I found and type the IP address for the uServe instead of typing in the http://nssrv..... recommended in the manual.

If you're using a Mac then OSX doesn't do WINS resolution and so http://nssrvxxxx (to get to the web interface for the UnitiServe) doesn't work.
You need to get the IP address of the address of the UnitiServe from either the TV GUI (plug a monitor into the VGA output or a TV into the s-video or composite output) or from your "connected devices" page on your router and use http://<ip_address_of_UnitiServe> as you have discovered...

It would be much easier of course if OSX was capable of WINS resolution then you could just use the device name as you do from a Windows machine but it's not so there's not a lot else that you can do if you want to get to the web interface from a Mac...
Phil
I could torture myself by installing a copy of windoze on my macs of course but then I couldn't use an iPad to administer my server.

I told you so!

this is interesting Phil, because I am using windows, but http://nssrvxxxx (to get to the web interface for the UnitiServe) did not work with me, either. Therefore, I found the IP address easily from Network/UServe/properties and used http://<ip_address_of_UnitiServe> to be able to use the browser interface.
