John Martyn's last album heaven and earth is out now.

It came out this month for those that didnt know?

and I am hoping it's a grower!

As I understand it it is a collection of 'old' tracks that Mr Martyn was putting together before he passed on and were recorded over a period of time ( years rather than months). It has been finished off by friends and colleagues. I think it is more of a 'groove' album in that it seems often that it is the groove/feel of the song that is essential rather than the shape of it. As usual I may be wrong. On (repeated!) initial hearing it has some good things on it and perhaps shows his fragility over the past few years. It doesn't wrap up his career nor does it feel like a swansong. The Phil Collins song and the 'Could've Told You Before I met You' are my current favs. I wish it had more information about it in the sleeve notes which for such a release are pretty non extistant.

It still has sunshine tho'.

God I miss him.

You are correct in what you say.

You can read about it on Johns site,johnmartyn.com.

It was record of the week in the Times 15th May.

I would of liked it to have been on vinyl?Maybe later if sales go well.

His Stormbringer album with his wife has just been re-done and out on vinyl also, so fingers crossed a few more will hit the streets in coming months.

I miss him big time..

I dont think their was a year during the 80's and 90's that i didnt see him play live, and hang out and have a few drinks with him and who ever was working with him at the time.

At least he has left a great collection of music and memories.

Just been listening to the new album on the car CD player as I am vinyl only on my Hi-Fi.

Fantastic album.......great groove!......on top form and in the style I love.....EXCELLENT!

Shame it is not on vinyl.....but if enough of us contact John Hillarby on the John Martyn's web site then who knows.

It is a shame he never got to tour the album and for one who has seen him at least once on every tour for maybe the last 15 to 20  years I am sure it would have been something else!

Garry,

Just keep a look out on Johns site over the coming months.

Some good stuff will be coming through when they have sorted through all his home and live recordings here and there going back years.

Plus the loving remastering of his back cat thats already started.
