NAP 200 input socket

Hi,

Is there a reason why the NAP 200 has a 4 pin din input rather than 3 like the rest of the range?

There is. It can supply power to a preamp. The amps with the 3 pin xlr (250, 300, 500) cannot.

OK, that makes sense, thanks.

Out of interest, has anyone tried putting a 3 pin din socket into a 200?

To clarify that, has anyone tried swapping the 4 pin socket for a 3 pin XLR.

No, there would be no point.  There's no performance advantage. You'd also ruin your NAP200 and lower its resale value.

And if anyone had done such a thing they wouldn't say it here because it breaks forum rules - no unauthorised modifications.

to point a thing: the xlr connectors for 250 and above are not really xlr, are more xlr-like, since, to my knowledge, the amps' design is not fully balanced (but Richard can correct me on this if i'm wrong)

They are normal Cannon XLR sockets, just used single-ended rather than balanced. The plastic plug ones are Naim's own design to CannonXLR spec. Sound better than metal ones, supposedly.
