iOS update issue for Tidal users

Posted by: ChrisSU on 09 December 2015

Anyone who uses Tidal on an iPhone or iPad may want to avoid the latest iOS9.2 update. If you store music for offline play, you will lose access to it. The notification email from Tidal (which you may already have recieved)  reads:

"Hello,

The latest Apple iOS update 9.2 has an issue affecting offline content storage. We recommend not updating to iOS 9.2 until Apple releases a new update.

If you have already updated, you can easily restore your offline content in your settings in TIDAL apps.

Best Regards
TIDAL"

Nothing to do with Naim streamers, of course,

Thanks for the tip Chris,  but I'm going ahead anyway as I don't use Tidal offline.
I will hit the update button when I've finished NAS streaming later.

As I understand it, you lose your offline stuff, which can be rectified by downloading it again.

That's right Keith - if you try to play downloads you get an error; you can swipe the download switch to off, confirm you want to remove downloaded content, then switch it back on again and it goes into your queue to be downloaded again. An inconvenience for those of us who upgraded while awaiting the taxi to the airport, but rectified with free wifi in the lounge.... I started at the end and cycled through albums which jump to the top of the display in sort by most recent download first mode. A chance to cull a few things I don't really listen to on the road any longer...

Yes, it wouldn't be the end of the world! I suppose you'd just be a bit miffed if you lost your downloads while on the road.

Exactly! Miffed until I got wifi on the road at least!!

I also noticed other "more secure" things during this upgrade, including re-giving access permission so my Mac mini could share with the iDevice. I can't recall needing to do that before, hence suspect it's an extra step in the new update process to lock access down and local storage for Tidal was shut out  (although my library e-reader app, Overdrive, is not similarly broken).
