Muso Wireless drops out

Posted by: Staxxx on 15 December 2015

Hi! I know these issues are addressed variously within the forums but I am still not very clear about the solution. I have my Muso connected to a Beetle Wireless Router/Hub via an Ethernet connection. I use Foobar uPnP off my PC.

It has been working smoothly the last few days (I have had the machine for a week) but today the wireless App just does not find the Muso consistently. The error message is Room Not Found and/or Streamer Not Responding. Occasionally I get a bout of the machine connecting for a few seconds or minutes and then dropping off. This happens particularly when I turn the power on and off.

The wireless server is stable in other operations outside of this app and the problem appears to be only between the Muso and the app. I believe I cannot run and enjoy my Muso without the app operating initially?

Can you suggest any solutions please. I intend to get a separate router and switch in the next week but it has been working fine for days via this hub and this appears to be a sudden problem.

I should mention that the issue is almost certainly to do with App connectivity.  I am guessing, but I think it happens when the Muso initially checks for updates automatically? However, as mentioned the error message is always Streamer not Responding.

Once the track is playing I can control playback completely through the Muso itself.

Also I do have the latest upgrade on the firmware running.

If I switch the power on and off it seems to hook up for a minute or two and then some process begins which causes the Muso to drop off and not be found.

The Muso also does not show up on my network. So I cannot access the settings page hoping to find a toggle which would stop the automatic check for software updates to be checked.

I bought this as I had a problem with my primary system and honestly at this point as getting quite frustrated and wished I hadn't. It does not seem to have any alternative to using the machine without the app. And the app is one of the most erratic and unstable programs I have ever used.

Do you have other APs at home other than your main wireless router?

I ask as if the device the app is running on ends up on a different AP then I have know access issues to the Muso

You might want to try reinstalling the app

Thank you!  Amazingly just reinstalling the app worked! I will do that whenever I have similar issues.

BTW, what is an AP?

Thanks.

OK. Dropped off again this morning so went through the process of uninstalling and reinstalling the App. Worked fine again.

Is this the standard process for some of you each time you want to listen? Is this a bug or an network/installation problem that I can solve please?

Thank you.

oOOps! Spoke too soon. Dropped off again. So installed and reinstalled the App once more. Worked for a few minutes and stalled again.

Gave up.

The interaction between Apps and their various connected devices can be a real pain. How about, if I am playing music from my iPad and the decide to read the Times app, I f I scroll up and down through articles the music cuts out, but life's too short to try to figure that out. Answer is don't read the Times and play music at the same time. Similarly, same iPad Air simply disconnects from the Internet intermittently with a reboot bring the only solution. Have tried changing the wireless channel etc but no luck. Not a solution to your problems, I'm afraid, but in this complex interactive world you buys your devices and gets your own unique brand of glitches.

AP is access point.  So what he means is do you just have wireless router or do you have any wifi repeaters.  If the App is talking to one and the muso is talking to another, than can cause problems like you describe.

The set up consists, at the moment, just of one unit which works as a modem, router and hub. I have all four lan ports plugged into it (one going to my PC, one to my Muso, one to the NAS and one to my other music server which currently is unplugged as it does not work). It also is the wireless router and that goes connects to the App. No repeaters.

I plan on getting a separate wireless router and a switch and only use the above unit as a modem, with the two units plugged into it's LAN ports only. I am hoping that configuration will be more stable.

Today I installed and reinstalled the app three times and still it does not work. The error messages are quite erratic. Once it connected for 20 seconds and then dropped off. The other time it just says no rooms found. The third time it hung when it said checking for updates (it seems to behave like this with regards to checking each time) and then of course the usual streamer not responding....

What have I got wrong in my set up please? What should I change? Thanks!

OK. Finally out of frustration I got a new wireless router and switch. This seems to be working .....fingers crossed. I am using the old router/modem only as a modem with the wireless disabled. The switch is plugged into the new wireless router unit which is connected to the old unit. It appears to be more stable this way.
