Does Anyone in London Still Have the Simple Audio iPad App?

Posted by: endlessnessism on 17 December 2015

I am using Simple Audio Roomplayer + units as a multi-room streaming solution in my house.  I bought the units cheaply following the demise of Simple Audio earlier in the year and they do all I need until Naim streamers can provide Qobuz (assuming they too don't go under) and uncompressed multi-room.

Unfortunately, I managed to delete the latest (and last) Simple Audio iPad app, without a back-up, and it's no longer available in the iTunes Store.  Fortunately, I've still got an older iPod app that seems to work on iPad and may have to do, and there is also Windows desktop control though pretty clunky.

It seems there may be a way to transfer discontinued apps from one iTunes account to another, without compromising either party's security:

Hence my question, and of course I'd be happy to travel to a forum member willing to assist.

I hope this post is not offending any forum rules but the intention is simply to facilitate access to an app that was originally available, for free, from a company that is now defunct.

Sorry, I can't help you.....but for future reference I can recommend Time Machine backups as a way to retrieve old versions of apps that you want to return to. I've used it in the past, for example, to retrieve a copy of the old N-Stream app from iTunes.

Thanks for your suggestion.

As for getting back the iPad App that I have lost, I wonder whether there's an easier solution that doesn't require a physical meeting (not that I'm averse to meeting forum members)?

If someone out there had the Simple Audio iPad app, could he or she make a Windows back-up (.ipa file) and then copy it to a (temporarily) shared folder in Dropbox or similar?  Would this work or would there be some kind of block on transferring in this way?

I'd really like to find a solution to get my Simple Audio iPad App back.  Unfortunately I have had no joy from either Corsair (the owners of Simple Audio who closed it down) or Apple.  Both have given the faceless corporate response "we cannot allow you to download a discontinued app" with "cannot" in this context meaning they cannot be bothered to get off their freckle to provide the tiny .ipa file that I need and that one or both of them will surely have somewhere on their servers.

For anyone interested, the good news is that I have solved the problem that I had of lost artwork in the Simple Audio PC desktop (I have a separate thread on this subject), although I don't understand how or why the solution works.  I had noticed that artwork was not displayed if I sourced the music library on my NAS but was displayed for the local library on the same PC.  Therefore, I simulated a local source for my NAS-based music library by mapping a drive to it on a PC and then pointing Simple Audio to the mapped drive rather than to the NAS.  It means I've got to keep the PC on all the time but I do that anyway so not a problem.  Better still (and for reasons I don't understand), this solution also means that I see the artwork on other PCs in the house.

Unfortunately, it's two steps forward, one step back, and the process of discovering this solution was how I lost my Simple Audio iPad app.  One of my ideas was to delete everything relating to Simple Audio and then rebuild from scratch and it was only after deleting the app that I realised I didn't have a back-up and it was no longer available...

Can I widen this search?  I have been in touch with the Apple Help Desk and it seems I don't need someone in London and there is no need to meet physically.

It can all be done remotely and securely via the "family sharing" procedure.  All I need is someone who has the Simple Audio iPad app and is willing to accept me as a temporary family member for the brief period necessary to enable me to copy the app.

Any takers?

If you back up the iPhone 4 to iTunes, you could then connect the iPhone 5 to the same computer and add the app manually from the backup.

As Chrissu says, you should be able to back-up the iPhone 4 to iTunes, then connect the iPhone 5 to the same computer and drag the app to it.  It really is the only way, and then be sure to back up the iPhone 5 as well.

As the originator of this thread, I can add that I have had a lot of fun and games trying to reinstate the iPad app that I inadvertently deleted.  After much hunting around, I found a hi-fi shop in North London, Bartlett's Hi-Fi, who were Simple Audio stockists and still had a copy of the app on their computer.  Hats off to them as they have been immensely helpful in letting me hook-up my iPad and take a copy.  I can highly recommend them for their service and good cheer.
