Speaker Cables
Posted by: Blue Flame on 20 December 2015
It seems that NAIM only wants us to use NAC A5 or SL speaker cables.
Has anyone here tried any other Cables and if so, was the result satisfying?
Has anyone had problems with their NAIM amps when using other than NAIM speaker cables?
No problems, I've used chord signature with great success then recently moved to tellurium q black diamond and the difference again is substantial. More depth, more detail and brilliantly controlled really deep bass. I'm a TQ convert!
No problem with Nordost or Ansuz cables. That said and I'll add that IMO high end cables should be the final tweak once you've settled on a complete system
Chord Odyssey with no problems at all with NAP 200 or 250.
I enjoyed Tellurium 'Green' in my Naim system for a few years. I know the less expensive Tellurium 'Black' works well too.

Thanks all for the inputs. I will check out the different cables.
I've tried several. Not a fan of Chord, Nordost even less so, but I'm getting good results with Mogami at the moment. Less leading edge than the Naca5 but greater extension and more natural timbres. Curiously, the 500 runs cooler with it and Shahinian Diapasons than it used to with Sl2s and Naca5.
I'm on nordost heimdall 2. Really happy. Nap200dr.
Blue Flame, if you want to see a sizeable ongoing rant about this in recent forum memory, you can try here:

I think there are quite a number of cables which work well with Naim, however the Naim ones best emit the real Naim sound signature. So be sure you audition it as good as possible.
I have used NAC A5 and am now using Vertere Pulse X mini speaker cables. I have gained sonic benefits in all areas (but I preferred the look of the NAC A5).
I tried some Kimber 8TC (that I had used successfully on a valve amp) on my NAP250.2 some years back. I knew that electrically it wasn't suitable - too low inductance and too high capacitance - but thought I'd try it out anyway. Wooaah... not good. The NAP250 got really hot very quickly and the sound performance was unremarkable. The NAP250 was obviously in distress so I removed it before any serious damage was done.
Linn have a new cable, called K200
Would be interesting to know how that compares to naca5

I've been using a pair of Siltech Explorer 90L that were used with another kit with an almost new, one week old 272/200DR and been very happy with the results. No issues with an overheating amp. This evening I tried a pair of pre-loved NAC A5 and after a few hours and some A/B decided the Siltech cables were more to my liking. They seem to offer better bass extension, wider soundstage and finer details. Going to keep the Siltech cables for now.
I have used Supra Classic 6 for a number of years on older classic olive gear, and now with my Uniti/Nap-100 amplifier with no issues. The Classic is very flexible and quite cheap to buy.
I have gone back to good old Linn K20 . I find it so much smoother than A5 without loosing the Naim character. I just feel like sometimes my system is just shouting at me and can be too inyourface. I would also love to know if anyone has trying Linn's new k200.

I've used a variety of Chords up to Rumour 2 which was ok. I changed to TQ Black earlier this year which has been brilliant. Really happy with it and the interconnects have followed suit

i tried some and eventually went back to Naca5 as the best for Naim, only to find out i get ear fatigue from it this time around, so i went with Naca4 (that is, Linn K20).
Tried a Kimber 4TC - pretty nice, electrically not suitable and the NACA5 is better. Also tried Teddy Pardos cable. Not bad, but NACA is still better. Tried a Phonosophie NACA5 style cable which was once hyped in Germany, but the NACA is better...
I'd tried Tellurium Green and heard Chord Epic Signature. They are good in certain aspects but still prefer the NACA5.
Recently tested Studio Connections Platinum. A UK brand, however, it does not seem to be mentioned much here. They are good in my opinion and I bought them to replace my NACA5.
Did not have an opportunity to try the Chord Sarum Tuned Aray, so am unable to compare it to Studio Connections Platinum. It is a good alternative to the few manufacturers that gets mentioned much.
