Dilemma – Hugo/SN2

Posted by: Goodsounds on 21 December 2015

Today I received Wireworld Supernova 7 Toslink cable to replace the current standard cable between Mac Mini and Hugo (“new” version with increased spacing for connectivity). I immediately noticed it does not plug in with a “click” into the Hugo as did the standard cable. It plays all WAV file formats except 24/192 files (did not check DSD format) which have been played by the standard cable. I was already about to remove it and send it back, but kept on playing 16/44 files and am totally satisfied with the improvement I can hear so I don’t want to send it back anymore in terms of quality but I have to because a slight touch of the Wireworld cable might disconnect it and for sure I want to listen to (more) 24/192 files (currently only have Roger Waters – Amused To Death). I was already thinking about going direction to NDAC/SN2 and having a demo but for the moment looking for a new cable to test and asking Toslink cable users, which one you are using that really fits into Hugo?

Thats interesting because I've tried two different toslinks from cd player to 2qute with the same result. At the cd end there is a resounding click but not at the qute end. Swapped ends but still the same!

As I don't use the cd player I hadn't really looked into it further assuming I needed a better (different) toslink cable, but reading your thread I would be interested in a solution. I'm using usb from mac and bnc to bnc from sonos/reclocker to 2Qute. I know its not a Hugo but obviously same inputs.

The 2qute toslink jack seems to be quite tight when inserting the toslink cable. I have used qed reference toslink and it needed a push to click into the 2qute. Of course removing a cable when I sold the 2qute was a bit of a pain.
