Hi MartinK

Nice one  Similar thought (to put it mildly ) when I added a XPS 2 DR to the NAC-N 272. A one way street as there is no going back to the main component without a Naim turbocharger

All the best

Nice! That's an upgrade I'd love to make! I'll check your post tomorrow, make me jealous!

Hi Clemenza,

I heard improvement immediatelly after pluging in.

Tighter bass, more info in treble area even better midrange, better soundstage ( sound is full in between speakers - speakers disappeared).

i do not know how long it needs to running in but already niw it is better then without XPS

Just inspiration :-)

Congrats Martin - looking good!

Thats the next planned upgrade for me and my SN2/NDX too, just as soon as Ive saved some pennies.

I like the Turbocharger analogy, Rick, very good!

Don't do this to me! ;-) Enjoy your nice setup!

Hi Martin,

when I added a xps2 dr to my xp5xs last year it delivered the results as you suggest.I have just taken delivery of a ndx 2 days before Christmas as a upgrade to the nd5xs.Straight out of the box the combo to my ears is way ahead of the nd5xs/xps2 dr combo.Hopefully it will improve even further over the coming weeks.

Hope you enjoying your new addition.

All the best,Scott

Given my recent system updates I'm trying a HCDR (again) on my SN2 next week.

This will be interesting. I've had my HCDR plugged to my SN2 since the beginning and I actually never have tried it without it.

Congrats on the XPSDR Martin, very nice looking setup.

I will. As I've posted before, I've had an 'on/off' relationship with the HCDR on the SN2 but perhaps in the context of the more resolving NDAC:SXPS & Ovator S-400 system it will show its worth.

Apologies for going a bit OT.

Graeme it would be great to hear your thoughts, when you get the chance, on the XPSDR. Keep enjoying those S400s :-)

Hi Dan43 - It's the HCDR I'm trying out. The XPSDR is too big a financial stretch given my recent outlays.

Cheers

I'm keeping this one Graeme, really really pleased with what it does to my SN2, not night and day but more depth, soundstage and realism that is very enjoyable.

Mine has arrived but I await a Snaic 4 next week. Glad it's working for you.

Will the DR upgrade make much difference to my CDS3 or would the money be better spent elsewhere?

Posted on: 31 December 2015 by gary yeowell

Steve, i tried an XPS2DR on my CDS3 in place of my 9 year old XPS2. I felt it was different, rather than better. Quite frankly, given the cost i'd be tempted to go on holiday instead.

Cheers for that Gary.  Much appreciated.

Holiday is just one off joy, Naim upgrade gives me years of joy ( but difficult to explain to my wife :-) )

Ooh. Do I detect a bit of 'box-count creep' here, Graeme?

Well, I have 5 heads on my Grahams Hydra, 3 of which were looking forlorn!

Beautiful Martin! Me jealous Thanks for the inspiration! I think you'll like the HCDR too. I went with that first because I wasn't sure I would be sticking with the Naim source, but now that I have, an XPS/555 is in my dreams.

Should be a Happy New Year for you! Salud!

Ahoj Martin

See if you can borrow an nDAC, before you purchase the HiCap. Then put the XPS on the nDAC and connect your NDX via DC-1. Good second-hand nDACs can now be had for around EUR 1200 - same as a new HiCap.
