Hi cap position on Fraim shelf

Posted by: Pawson6844 on 29 December 2015

Hope you all had a good Xmas.

I have a question about my hicap. It's on the first shelf above the nap250dr which is on the base.

Its located on the very right hand side of the shelf with the napsc sharing the same shelf but on the very left edge so there is a gap in the middle.

I can't avoid the cables to and from the hicap touching the centre support of the Fraim at the back.

If I swap the hi cap and napsc over I can avoid all cables touching the Fraim.

Is this worth doing

Current layout top to bottom is

cd5xs

202

flatcap xs

napsc   Hicap

250dr

Thanks Dan

Try putting the napsc on the floor as far from the stand as possible. Then try the Hicap on the left and see if it sounds any worse, which is most unlikely. Could you locate it centrally?

it would be best if you could split your Fraim rack with the 202 and CD5XS on the right and the rest on the left, brawn, stack.

Thanks for the replys

yes I could move the napsc. I have a power socket to the right of the Fraim. I would be able to move the napsc to use the full length of cable it has from the 202. I presume this is the place for it to go? I always thought everything benefitted from being on the Fraim?

The hi cap could then move to the centre yes, it would have the shelf to itself.

After buying the Fraim and 250 I don't think I'd be in the good books if I said we needed another Fraim base!

While im moving boxes and cables my Fraim is directly in front of my power sockets, this means all my boxes are within 12-14 inches of a socket. What can I do with the left over power cords? I have them all pushed under the Fraim at the minute?

Thanks again.

Not sure about mains across the pond, but coiled up beneath the Fraim doesn't sound good!

I've heard from the Forum, that the 282, likes the high ground.

HH, is on spot with the Napsc.

Amps prefer the right, but one stack suggest the bottom.

 CD5xs needs

Separation from Pre, but since it's being powered by Flat Cap, should be ok.

202

CD5xs

Flat Cap

Hi Cap Center

250DR

Perhaps some power distribution device, even Naim recommended Wiremold.

250 & PD wall

PD- Hi Cap- Flat Cap- CD5XS-Napsc

Neat, not coiled, to the right of Fraim.

Interconnects hanging freely, not touching the floor, and separation with digital IC's. Bubble wrap If IC's are touching.

Well, I got all that from the experts on the Forum, as always cross reference with others on the Forum.

 Hope that was helpful!

Great reply thanks.

interconnects are going to be ok.

I have dedicated wall sockets for each box so it's just the spare power cables I need to tidy up. I've also found in the search they are best kept off the floor? How can this be achieved I probably have 5-7m of power cable to arrange?

Anyone else any views on 202 on the top Fraim shelf before I re-fit everything tonight?

Thanks

Putting the 202 on the top is the best approach in my experience. As for the leads can you take them off to the side and then back again, so that they are not coiled? That said, you may not actually hear any difference.

HH, is it all Snake Oil! LOL!!!!!

Please tell me you heard a difference with your SL speaker cable!

Well thanks guys.

Got everything back together.

202 now on top and napsc moved far away as possible, no interconnects or cables touching wall, floor or Fraim.

Power cables moved to side of rack in a neat order and kept well away from interconnects.

Certainly a difference, not huge but big enough to notice. Abit more airiness if that's even a word and seems like more clarity.

Not sure if it's one thing or a combination but happy with this afternoons alterations!

Thanks again
