Mu-So remote control

Posted by: zanc on 29 December 2015

I know there are smart phone remote control apps for the Mu-So, but it would be nice to have a conventional remote where the input could be selected with a single button press rather than scroll through the possible inputs. With the supplied remote you have to press and wait to see if the correct input is selected. Could use a universal learning remote, but there is nothing for it to learn from. I must also say that the quality and usability of the remote does not match (even closely) the quality of the Mu-So itself.

I agree with the build of the remote, it does appear to be at odds

I suspect it is because the app is considered the first choice

I agree, Naim probably do consider the app as the first choice. Unfortunately, it is slower to pick up the device start the app and control the volume than picking up a dedicated/programmable remote.

Also, I find that it would be nice if the Mu-So would power on when an optical/TOS signal is active, just in the same way as Airplay and Bluetooth cause the Mu-So to turn on. This would mean I would not have to turn on the Mu-So when I turn on my TV. If anyone from Naim is listening, can this be done?

Uniti remote is brilliant.  Would/could it work?

I only use mine to control the volume and occasionally toggle between saved radio stations.

I have a SuperUniti and am picking up a Mu-so on my way home this evening. Will try the SuperUniti remote and report back - unless someone who has already tried it beats me to it.

I think a remote is always a trade off between what needs to be available as choices and simplicity of design. I think it works for the basics pretty fine. Normally one should b most concerned about switching numbers, volume etc and it works fine for that.

I tend to disagree with you on it usability. It might be my fingers, but I often make mistakes in increasing the volume and selecting the input (2 of the most common activities), as the buttons operating areas are small and are so close together. Only having next and previous inputs is also a pain as you need to see the dial to identify which input you are selecting (defeats the purpose of a remote), or switch and wait to see what comes on.

Well, I can report that the Uniti Remote does control the Muso in that it sends commands across and will control volume and switch inputs. BUT given there is no display on the Muso it is actually no better than the supplied Muso remote. That in no way implies any criticism of either remote - simply that without a display the range of commands that be sensibly managed with a remote is reduced. The Muso remote appears to have been designed with that in mind.

Muso sounds fantastic, by the way!

Does the Uniti remote provide direct access to inputs?  Or does it scroll them?
