Superuniti - Signal Ground Switch

Posted by: CSI_Basel on 01 January 2016

I read through an earlier thread on the Superuniti and how the changing the switch to floating made a big difference.

Mine has been set to Chassis since 3yrs. I have a SU connected to speakers and a US only.

All analogue inputs are switched off.  Reading through the manual it seemed to make sense to have it on Chassis. I switched it to Floating this morning, but it didn't seem to make a difference....

Also do you have to switch off the SU to change the switch position?

What do other forum have their SUs set to?

Cheers and HNY!

I assume you have found my posting on this yesterday (?). I did not switch of the SU, just switching the know on the SU back was all to experience a very much better sound quality. Please note however, that my power socket does NOT have a grounding, so that might be of influence. In case your power socket has a grounding already, you maybe will not find any improvement.

Good luck !

Hi, Naim preamps are designed to have one and only one source grounded. So if your other sources are floating then switch the SU to ground, if however you have a grounded source, and Naim dedicated CD players are usually grounded  for example then put the SU switch to float.

You can change this setting whilst powered up.

Yes I read the thread and decided to try the 'floating' position (no other inputs are used, mains socket does have an earth) to absolutely no discernable effect.

Back to 'chassis' but the sound was lovely anyway!

Since you only have SU unity running, with nothing but speakers connected to it, the ground switch position should not make any difference if your power supply has a dedicated earth.

Not quite, if no other inputs are attached, the then the unit will be designed for the ground switch set to chassis.. however what is designed and what is your personal preference may not always be the same.

powesuplly ground and signal ground are not necessarily the same thing.
