What are you listening to and WHY might anyone be interested? (Vol. XII)

2016 has arrived today, so time to start this thread afresh.
Last year's thread (and links to previous years) can be found here;
Run the Jewels II
Bought this LP yesterday secondhand from a local record shop. I've had it for years (decades) on CD, but I'm hearing things for the first time that have been missing or hidden on the CD.
Steal of the week: http://www.eclassical.com/perf...tos-nos-5-6-etc.html
very convincing performance of Brautigum on a fortepiano. He plays the left and right hand like you are hearing two instruments. Absolutely top notch and the kind of recording that makes you want to air-piano-play
I'm not too fond of the orchestra. I'm missing the clarity of a Frans Brügen or Nicholaus Harnoncourt, or the mastery of a Philip Herreweghe.
Just back from a walk on the beach, and a pint in the local... well it's very rude to walk past without going in for a quick one
Now home and Just chilling to:
Think the volume will increase for coal train
Simply because it is one of my all time favourite LPs. Love the track "Are you in".

Tull at their best and one I haven't listened to in far too long, recently repurchased replacing stolen original vinyl.

I love Brautigam's playing.
I found out about this pianist via this Schumann disc I bought last year.

Daft Punk.............on Tidal.
Nice and mellow Sunday afternoon music, with superb rhythm guitar from the master, Nile Rodgers.
Dave - I had never played this album before, but spurred on by your post, I gave it a whirl earlier - via Tidal also. Played it all the way through whilst ironing - & enjoyed it
. Will certainly revisit it - don't think I would buy it though, but that's one of the plus points of a Tidal etc. Thanks.
1st run of this new one. According to the review I read it's a nice added benefit to the Symphonies and nothing more. Sounds like the reviewer is right - ok, but nothing special...

I looked at their program and there are some very good and interesting performance that would never come around in Chicago.
For instance:
Trifonov & Goerne ( a Dream team for me! )
Christiane Karg & Christian Gerhaher
Lisa Batiashvili; Antoine Tamestit; Jean-Guihen Queyras; Jonathan Biss ( Super Piano Quartet! )
Julia Fischer/Igor Levit ( unexpected pairing )
Ian Bostridge/Lars Vogt ( ditto )Not only Wigmore Hall get the top A list stars but they appear together in the same ensemble which rarely happens here. I also think that the programming is more diverse than what I have seen in Chicago. ( which generally very conservative )
I think that the performers appreciate more when the audience understand and respond to the music they are making which would allow them to play better.
Also cozy smaller atmosphere helps. The venue looks like the right size for an intimate recital.
Hi Kuma
Thanks for alerting me to the Fischer/Levit concert. Yes, the Wigmore is a treat. Only the other day I was moaning that the USA, Germany and France received more visits from top artists than UK but was forgetting to check out the Wigmore Hall calendar.
Thanks
Richard
Neil Cowley Trio - Touch & Flee. Nice fresh sound. Another favourite.
1st run, seems to be nice, with the drums a bit dominant in the mix ....
back to back: "The Griffith Park Collection" & The Griffith Park Collection 2 (in concert)"
Stanley Clarke (acoustic bass), Chick Corea (piano), Joe Henderson (sax), Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), Lenny White (drums) originally released on the Elektra Musician label.
Some good tracks on this one from 2014

Now that's a group I've never heard before, going to have to check it out....

Not heard of this group, Can you let me know a little more, what type of genre is the music, looks intriguing just going on album name and cover...
The old masters. With the annoying noises from Keith of course, but I am used to that..
