Late-night Ducal sessions from the end of the 1950s on CD. Relaxed yet majestic. And swings like a bastard.

I have two copies of the MFSL sacd of this Kevin and the sq is majestic. One of the top 5 sounding discs I own.

Yes, Ewen, even the "standard" CD and vinyl sound amazing. All of Duke's albums recorded at Columbia's NYC studios sound very good.

@Kevin & Ewen. I can also thoroughly recommend this Mono reissue from Pure  Pleasure Records brilliant SQ.

Mr Kevin Webster of this parish introduced me to this fabulous album and i'm very grateful.   It is a brilliant mixture of Jazz, soul and blues from the early 70's with a kick ass band and a singer [Lydia Pense]  who can give both Janis Joplin and Etta James a run for their money.. Thanks K for the HU.

Vinyl.

Pleasure G. Just looking for a nice condition early press of the self-titled first album, which is just as good. If you like Sysyphus you will like that as well.

This was posted by APYE! on the "what was the last vinyl you bought" thread.  Never really heard any of his stuff -  like this though.  Played on the Muso this morning and now on the SU via Tidal.  Nice recommendation APYE!

G - where did you get it from? The only UK retailer I could find selling it has a rather shaky reputation.

My first thought was, how nice to hear this... immediately followed by, they really separated the channels on this stereo recording!! Instruments left, vocals right and hardly ever the twain shall meet.

Isn't that the purpose of the 'mono' button on the pre-amp?

Her finest studio album IMHO. I think I might have to give that a spin next!

Revisited a couple of old Gomez albums recently and read a review comparing them to Pearl Jam's "No Code" so I dusted this one off for a spin -  Hmmm .. Not doing it for me - prefer the Gomez.

I'm sure you are right Clive but  I don't have a pre-amp in my Naim System (just a humble Superuniti) and I was listening to those Beatles albums in my Naim free 2nd system.

For no particular reason that I can think of, a desire to listen to more from the Fabs is with me today. This one the 2009 re-mastered stereo version. The stereo remaster sounding way better than the above mentioned with the beatles album which was more duo phonic than stereo!

K - I am pretty sure I got it direct from Pure Plesure but when I looked for a pic to down load it was not listed. The river has it listed for £70  Acoustics Sounds have it up for $35 as does music direct $34.99 + shipping . No indication from both how much to get it to the UK but my experience with Music Matters could be $30+ and then as you know there is always the risk of custom tax.

Hi G - Diverse can get itr for me for £28 plus postage, so I've ordered it, although it might take three weeks. Thanks for the heads up.

Because I mentioned it in the 'I'm So Glad' thread and I couldn't resist the lure of such a splendid album.

Regretably I don't have a huge amount of Ellingtons work so will need to search the above title out. Any other recommendations?
